It depends on what you find scary
I honestly never found it scary or frightening. Just kinda boring. And before people rip me apart on that, it's not because of the lack of action, it's just the way the story is portrayed and that it's all puzzles that took me ages to do and then walking quickly away from a monster that they assumed I was afraid of, when I really never was. So it was puzzles, brisk walking, hiding, puzzles, repeat.
Not scary at all given you know how the AI works.
For me it was boring because I kept getting stuck, walked through the same corridor 10 times and it had a very silly atmosphere. It was "omg herp a monster looking for you" and "derp you're here and you don't remember anything from the past!!"

Prison was the one area that had me creeped out, but it's my favorite part of the whole game.
But seriously get immersed, and play the game as it was intended, once you complete it the first time the whole game is very easy to complete again and you will remember all the scare-places.

It's one of the best horror games I've ever played. I don't get scared really in horror games but there were definitely some "OH FUCK IT IS RIGHT FUCKING BEHIND ME I CANT LOOK BEHIND ME OH GOD OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK IS IT CHASING ME? OHHHHH FUCK." moments.
Just moments where you have to run for your life or hide for your life.

Thanks, I was just paranoid about something like this happening.
I was so hyped for this game, I've gotten passed the water monster thing and am looking for a [sp]Drill[/sp] and I can honestly say I haven't jumped once,
Nightmare house 2 was way scarier.
