I reformatted away years of music projects. Backed up some mp3s, but forgot to back up a lot of project files that I wanted to keep.
Then I found out that the hard-drive probably didn't really need to be reformatted in the first place.

You could try using Recuva. You'll be able to search for previous files that were on the drive, and it may be able to recover some of your data.
