I want another series that's pretty much railgun but exactly the same. So basically I want another series of railgun. All the Sci-Fi recommendations are grim and depressing. I'm struggling to find something new to watch that isn't cripplingly sad.

I just really liked the pacing I suppose, and the balance of irrelevant bollocks with actual storyline seemed to fit well with the rate at which I watched it. I tried the first few episodes of Index, but it seemed crap so I gave up on it.

This makes no sense. Index was on the exact same level on everything as Railgun. It just didn't have the same amount of shitty lesbian fanservice.
Well I haven't really seen much light hearted sci-fi stuff, especially not like Railgun.
Looking over MAL I'd just recommend you to find something else instead because sci-fi stuff that has sci-fi items in them (not sci-fi like Aria and Haruhi) are generally not light and happy shows.

I did find the beginning few episodes of Index [I]very[/I] confusing with the magic and esper crap. It was actually easier to understand if you watched Railgun before, as it explains more on the esper side. After that it was pretty much the same.
