I actually considered going to an Anime Convention in this. Airsoft is Japanese after all.. so it wouldn't be that far off.

It's ugly. But it's not entirety like "lol look at me in dressing up in an retarded colorful anime character clothing". And it wouldn't be instantly recognizable which is a plus.

It would still look like shit.
Most costumes look like shit because they lack any form of detail. One plain colour sewed up together from several different patches, maybe some random other colour here and there and voilà, your shitty homemade costume is ready.
But eh, cosplaying is terrible anyways. It's half-cool when it's well done, like that Protoype guy. But it's still... Ugh...

Finished NANA.
Well goddamn. I decided to watch it for some half-lesbian light comedy stuff with some possible drama on the side. Having seen first season of Darker than Black and both seasons of GitS I wasn't in the mood for yet a gloomy dark show. But nooo, NANA is a full-on loldrama show with a lot of humor on the side.
But it was goddamn good too. It starts really slow and painfully (watching wise) with lots of flashbacks and repetitive stuff, I think you see that train scene at least 3-4 times during the first 10 episodes, and that goddamn man she foolishly loved. But at around episode 10 and to episode 27 it was really really really great. Then I had a long break before I watched episode 27 to episode 37, but it just wasn't the same anymore, I couldn't really get in the mood and things just didn't work anymore. I don't know if the show just suddenly lost that spark or if it was just me not in the same mood anymore because of the break (latter being most likely as such a sudden drop would be really weird). But it did catch up a bit again nearing episode 37 and then episode 37-47 became gradually better and better again.
The ending was really empty, but hey, as that annoying girl says at the end the manga wasn't finished so they just had to finish it without really concluding shit. Actually great that they didn't make up their own shit to get a ending and rather just said it out "Read the manga from here on... We might make a second season, but who knows?".
The songs were good even though really really overused. I raged at the first OP song at one specific useage as I was already fed up with the constant appearance of it in the show itself over and over again. The soundtrack comes over and over again, the same song, they don't even try to hide it. Sometimes they are put in unfittingly, and sometimes they just don't work simply because of the re-usage making you just get tired of it. But I guess all that wouldn't be much of a problem if one watched it as it aired, but that's not really an excuse though. For a 47 episode show the soundtrack was extremely limited.
I love the artstyle, if only they didn't put a reflection inbetween their brows all the time, makes it look like a sweat drop when it isn't and makes it hard to see when they actually put in a sweatdrop for comedical effect. The mouths are sometimes pretty much that of a duck too, which ruins the mood a bit at times and can cause some great laughs. But generally I like it all.
The animation does it's job, though I wouldn't really call it average, a step down without making it a bad thing. It's all the animation you NEED, although it really looks retarded sometimes when Nana sings and they zoom up to her face and it's completely still except for the mouth. Even by anime standards it looked bad.
It has as said a lot of loldrama, but it somehow works. But as I also pointed out when I watched episode 27-37 it didn't really work. So you really need to be in the mood to watch it or else it just won't work. It is loldrama after all. Nana or Nana speaking, remembering back or pointing out shit in a sad whisperish voice. You know, that, "This is a sad show, we thought we would put emphasis on that by having these people look back on their life and tell you a bit about it in a sad voice" thing. There is a lot of love problems and conflicts. A realistic show in terms of love, even though the situation they are in that the show revolves around is pretty much impossible, but that's a given. A story needs to be exciting and filled with good elements, too realistic and there is no point in it and you can't really get the points out well. Realism comes through unrealistic settings in entertainment.
All in all, a great show, but I can also see it that you can easily dislike it because of it's loldrama. It got me building up tears a billion times and I think I got some drops running down maybe 2-4 times. I was hoping for more to the ending, but eh, it was obvious that wasn't going to happen.
9/10 - One of the few examples of something that deserves it's place in the top 100 list on MAL.
Since it was a show centering around making a band it also had quite a few nice bands that was refered to through CD covers and/or dialogue.
Eric Clapton. The Sex Pistols. Metallica. The Beastie Boys. And well, a heap load of others stuffed into Yasu's CD collection.
