I know I can use XP with this current computer. However, I hate formatting. I don't think I've formatted my hard drives in 3+ years. If I'm going to get windows 7, I also want to get a new CPU and motherboard, that way I'll only have to format once. If I get a new motherboard, I'll possibly need new RAM sticks too.
To avoid all of this together, what I REALLY want to do is just build a second computer, but first I'd need the money to do that.

You don't need to reformat your PC when you get new hardware. You don't need to reformat to install windows 7 either.
The directory XP is in will be put into a old.windows folder where all your program files and shit is stored in, and of course the Xp windows folder.
You just have to re-install all your shit which already is in windows.old. So you just have to google up the names of the folders inside your "program files" folder.
No need to worry about drivers as Windows 7 downloads and installs those automatically.

Besides, I want to format to get rid of all of the crap I don't need, but I'd rather just wait until I get a new computer. Just takes like 30 minutes - 2 hours to install pretty much everything anew.
But it depends a bit on your download speed of course as in you have to get the files too.
