Oh my god, so much truth. I really enjoyed Ellie in DS2 where she was just another survivor with okay personality. The chemistry between her and Isaac wasn't some blatant love story and even by the end they aren't portrayed as a couple, only as survivors.
Enter DS3 and Ellie is turned into a whiny "ex"-girlfriend who somehow fell in love with EarthGov officer who's an absolute asshole. She and Norton have no fucking chemistry. Not to mention she clearly doesn't give a shit about Norton the moment Isaac appears except for the moment [sp]when you kill him in self-defence after he betrayed you and called the lunatics who have no history of leaving anyone alive. Don't worry though, she forgives Isaac and loves him again after few moments.[/sp]
I have a lot of issues with DS3 but what they did to Ellie is probably the worst for me.

It's kind of the point of the novel, but most characters in 1984. [sp]O'Brien especially, because seriously what kind of irredeemable human being do you even have to be to torture somebody until they're literally just a blank slate, then let them back into the world to worship some fictional god-like leader?[/sp] The whole concept of Miniluv is disturbing, especially since [sp]it's never even suggested that they dehumanise the enemies of Oceania and don't even detach themselves, they just genuinely enjoy what they do.[/sp]

In relation to O'Brien
[sp] It's implied that O'Brien was once just like the protagonist Winston at some point in the past before he himself probably went through the same torture. When Winston asks him that they got him too he replies "They got me a long time ago." And since Winston is essentially loyal to the party by his own will (tortured and broken will) One could assume O'Brien went through the same thing. [/sp]
