It's kind of the unspoken rule that the biggest social no-no you can do is draw any attention to it. For all the degeneracy and laxed attitudes my year had we were strict as fuck about ensuring no one got needlessly offended. Nothing wrong with a bit of banter but it was obvious when you crossed a line. It's kind of weird for me, I really want to be as sympathetic as possible but it's genuinely hard for me to understand things like racism, sexism or homophobia because it just never existed where I grew up. Nobody cared about anything as long as you weren't a cunt. I always assumed until I started really learning about the world beyond my safe middle class bubble that racism was just a thing that happened in the history books.
