Quake II. I remember I went to a computer camp when I was like 9 or 10 and we got rained in, so we just had to sit inside and play Quake in a massive Lan party.

This.
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.
But I played these games in that timeframe also ('00-'01):
GTA2, Turok 3, Turok Wars (sucked), GTA3, and some Castlevania bullshit for the N64 (sucked also, but not as bad as Turok Wars.)
Doom 1.
Gta 1
Half-life, fuck yes.
It was either Quake 2 or Metal Gear Solid 1. I can't remember which.

Loved this game.
My first FPS as well.
It's gotta be Tomb Raider. It was one of the first games I got for my Playstation and that when I got into video games.
the cover of the original half life is a nostalgia bomb for me

Doom and Wolfenstine 3D.. but that was before the official rating system. For official rated M, that would have to be Alien Trilogy on the Sega Saturn!

Half-Life One.
Some South Park trivia game. It was so stupid, but I wanted it. I was 6 I believe. My dad didn't want me to have it though. I ended up not liking it and they brought it back and threatened to sue saying my underage brother bought it for me.
Shogo
GTA:III.
It looked so much better back then.
Some N64 fighting game, lots of gore and limbs falling off.
Yeah, GTA III.
I had to spend a deal of time convincing my parents, too. I was ten.
I remember standing around in Toys R Us while my parents discussed it in front of me.
In retrospect, I didn't even understand a decent chunk of the subject matter. Maybe ratings were invented just so little kids didn't play games with AWESOME STORYLINES that were above their heads.
Probably not!
Doom
-snipe-
Mortal Kombat 3, because MK2 wasn't rated yet.
