What's the longest you can grow your hair in the army? And what's the shortest length of time you can be in the army, and longest.
What's the longest you can grow your hair in the army? And what's the shortest length of time you can be in the army, and longest.
As long as your bangs are not in your face and hair not touching your ears, and the 1st Sergeant is happy. The shortest length of time you can get a contract for is 2 years, though they really do not give those out at all anymore. The longest you can be in the Army is technically your entire life, if you are a high ranking officer. I plan on spending 30 years in the Army. [editline]24th July 2012[/editline] Oh damn, my platoon sergeant texted me and said that we are doing a ruck march tomorrow for PT. Argh.
Ruck March?
Ruck March?
35 pound rucksack, 15 minute mile pace (division standard) or faster, and I don't know how many miles. The whole march will probably be about an hour. Great conditioning, but damn it can hurt your back sometimes, and they just suck in general.

I'm a skinny internet nerd and would be rendered unconcious by more than 5 at that pace.
How many miles is it usually? I'm a skinny internet nerd and would be rendered unconcious by more than 5 at that pace.
There is no "usually". The last ruck march I did was 8 miles at a 13 minute pace.
There is no "usually". The last ruck march I did was 8 miles at a 13 minute pace.
I would die.
I would die.
With that kind of attitude you won't make it through. This might sound cliche, but you really have to dig down deep and believe that you can do it. I once did a 7 mile ruck march with brand new boots. All the skin on my heels was gone and I could barely walk the next day. I did this with a 45 pound ruck, my M16, and my 240B. Total weight: 79.6 LB. That took some heart.
I would die.
That's why you prepare yourself before entering the Army, unless you like torture.
I would die.
You would be surprised how much the human body can jut out, adapt and grow. I would imagine everyone would die doing that before they went through BCT and did PT everyday. [editline]25th July 2012[/editline]
That's why you prepare yourself before entering the Army, unless you like torture.
I would prepare yourself, just because its healthy. I'm working out a ton, and it's sure as hell not doing it because im considering enlisting.
That's why you prepare yourself before entering the Army, unless you like torture.
I tried to prepare all I could, but I was still very physically weak. All you need is dedication and heart, as well as not letting anything get to you. You need to have an attitude like "You think I can't do this? Fuck you! I will show you all!" People are capable of a lot more than they think if they just have the mentality to break their own boundaries that they impose on themselves.

We may not have the largest military, especially with all these reductions happening this year, but we are very keen on training soldiers to their max potential.
What are you, Heer, Luftwaffe, or Marine?
Heer, I was part of the last groups of compulsory service before we switched to fully volunteer.
Ok guys, I am going to rack out to get some good sleep before PT. As usual, I will answer questions when I wake up and when I come back from work.
Would you say that, overall, good stamina/endurance is more important than general fitness? It seems like you'd get more worn out by not being able to move for long periods of time, rather than not being able to get it done quickly. I'd like to start exercising some more, and I think a combination of running and walking with weights would be ideal. Honestly I think my only issue I'd have in the armed forces is a strange psychological issue that I have, nothing alarming or severe, but something that would take some serious work to get over.
Honestly I think my only issue I'd have in the armed forces is a strange psychological issue that I have, nothing alarming or severe, but something that would take some serious work to get over.
I got a similar question, how many people in your BCT had a mental break down? A guy i knew, who was really fucking fit, who had worked security in the past and had even been in a gunfight before joined the marines and had a mental break down. The last person i would of expected to hear that happening from, at least when you examine him on the surface

Also, don't tell anyone about this issue. Trust me. Just don't threaten to kill anyone or yourself. The last person i would of expected to hear that happening from, at least when you examine him on the surface
We had two people. One guy just kept lying his ass off that he was hearing voices, or had sudden pains that would seem to pop up right before we did anything. He also threatened to kill us all in our sleep. He got chaptered. Another guy was saying that he was thinking of hurting other people and himself. He got chaptered too. I had a nervous breakdown in basic while boarding a bus for a range. I allowed all the stress to get to me and I started crying uncontrollably for no reason, even though I was thinking completely straight. My body just wouldn't stop for about 5 minutes. My platoon mates got me to snap out of it though, and I went on to shoot expert. [editline]25th July 2012[/editline] Alright, off to PT.
Is it a common occurrence for people to breakdown like that in Basic?
With that kind of attitude you won't make it through. This might sound cliche, but you really have to dig down deep and believe that you can do it.
Is it a common occurrence for people to breakdown like that in Basic?
Yeah, there are always one or two people per platoon that lost heart and realized that the Army wasn't for them. They then usually make up a bunch of stuff to get kicked out. Sometimes though, there are some legit crazy people. [editline]25th July 2012[/editline]
And your nickname isn't badass?
No, my nickname is usually whatever pun people can make off of my last name.

Is your suit the old one with spots or the new one with spots made out of squares? My cousin went to the (Estonian) army and he has the spots made out of squares one.
Is your suit the old one with spots or the new one with spots made out of squares? My cousin went to the (Estonian) army and he has the spots made out of squares one.
I am assuming that you mean our combat uniform. We have two. Our regular uniform is our ACU. We have another one which is OCP, in multicam, when we deploy to Afghanistan. Here is a comparison ACU: OCP:
And looks like over here we use ESTDCU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESTDCU Weird shit. Looks similiar to ACU.
So, what kind of an aircraft will you be flying, again? You are a pilot of sorts, yeah? Will you be raining hell down on the enemy some beautiful day, perhaps?
So, what kind of an aircraft will you be flying, again? You are a pilot of sorts, yeah? Normally they fly on the aircraft they maintain, but since I am a crew chief for Kiowa Warriors, I don't get that privilege. Also, there really is no such thing as a beautiful day in Afghanistan. Usually it is either "fucking hot" or "shit it's cold". [editline]25th July 2012[/editline] Ok guys, off to work.
What exactly is your last name,SKEEA? I find it hard to believe that one can possibly make so many puns out of a single last name.
And looks like over here we use ESTDCU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESTDCU Weird shit. Looks similiar to ACU.
ESTDCU kind of looks like CADPAT
What exactly is your last name,SKEEA? [editline]25th July 2012[/editline] Also, I am on my lunch break right now, so my time is somewhat limited. I will probably be at work for another 2-2 1/2 hours. [editline]25th July 2012[/editline] And I'm off. I will be back later.
