1.) Why the new pony avatar?
2.) Did you have a chance to shoot an AA-12 or a Kel-Tec KSG?

The new pony avatar is because it represents three things that I love very much. The Cavalry, myself, and the military brony community. For your other question, I have not had a chance to shoot those because they aren't military weapons at all. In order to shoot them, I would have to buy them myself. We barely use shotguns as it is anyways. Not as combat weapons, but as door breaching implements.
Love your new avatar skeea,I see you're really proud of your new Stetson.
Hell yeah I am proud! Being a part of the Cavalry is one of the greatest things ever. We have more camaraderie than most units, and have a very can do attitude. Not to mention we have great traditions.
the military brony community..
Wait, that exists?
Wait, that exists?
Oh yeah. There are a few of us. Started off small, but are growing every day. We have been the focus of some recent news, in fact.

I don't get what's so appealing about ponies though.
I don't get what's so appealing about ponies though.
I don't know, they just kind of grew on me. That, and the show taught values that are extremely close to the seven Army Values. That is what drew me in. Anyways, if you don't find them appealing that's on you. I don't try and sway people's opinion one way or the other, I leave it for them to like what they will and not go HEY LIKE PONIES OR I WILL LOVE AND TOLERATE THE CRAP OUT OF YOU. That is wrong, to force your personal likes on someone else. Just my $0.02.

Ok guys, off to bed. Work really drained me today, so I hope tomorrow is better. As always, I will studiously answer any and all questions when I come back from PT.
I know you're in the army but I figured you would've run into some marines by now. Are they really a bunch of dumb brainwashed idiots or is that just what some people like to say? I plan on joining the marines but I don't want to be a brainwashed idiot.

They aren't dumb brainwashed idiots. They are normal servicemembers in the military. They are pretty much like the Army, only with a lot more sayings drilled into their head. They love their sayings, "Every Marine is a rifleman", and all that. They also seem to be a bit more arrogant. Remember, in the military, you actually ARE allowed to think. Just not so much at lower enlisted levels.
[editline]31st July 2012[/editline]
With that, I am off to PT. I hope to be back in normal time this time.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I know it was kind of a dumb question but I just hear alot of crap about the marines and you seem like a pretty straight forward guy so I figured I'd ask you.
Is religion a big deal in the US military? Considering that you all go around with a tag around your neck telling everyone what you believe in (though you can choose not to do so).
And I do like your choice of religion :)

It is not really a big deal. Nowadays in the Army, no one cares what you like, what you believe in, or what sexual preference you are, just that you are able to get the job done. I have not gotten chirped for being an atheist, or as a member of the Cult Mechanicus. If someone finds out you are gay, usually the answer is "Whatever, lets go to a gay bar sometime so you can have fun." Today's Army is pretty chill.
Do you have to clean your gear everyday?
Do you have to clean your gear everyday?
No, because we don't wear it every day. We never wear it, unless we have a range or a spur ride or something. My gear just sits in my closet 90% of the time.
How long do you plan on serving the US Army?
How long do you plan on serving the US Army?
More than 20 years. I want to become a pilot, so that is doable. I love the Army. If I had to choose an airframe to fly, I would fly the Kiowa.
[editline]31st July 2012[/editline]
Whew, close call with the Juliets today. One of my squad leaders went into the J shop today, and talked a bit of trash to them. They then tackled him and tried to restrain him with the large amounts of zip cuffs and ties in their space. One of my buddies went running to go help him, so I felt obligated to help as well. I ended up in a choke hold after being tackled, and it looked like a huge wrestling match had broken out on the hangar floor. One of my other sergeants told the J's that we had work to do so we all had to cut the fun short and go back to work. In case you guys were wondering, 15J is our sister MOS. They are OH-58D Electronics, Armament, and Avionics repairers. They deal with the MMS on the Kiowa and anything having to do with wires. They like to ball people up (hog tie them) a lot, as they are pretty bored most of the time.
gay ball
Ok guys, I have a very early day tomorrow, and a late work day. We are literally working until all maintenance on our entire troop's helicopters is completely done, as we have a TON of stuff to work on with them, as well as prepping them for the C-17s that we are loading them on. The only upside to tomorrow is that we are wearing our Multicam uniforms from that day forward.

New Multicam? What does it look like?
I never pay much attention to new camo developments, I love our Flecktarn too much.
is this like final preparations b4 you leave?
I found myself with enough time to answer this question before I leave for the day. Yep, you hit the nail on the head, these are final preps before we load them up on Air Force C-17's to go over to the sandbox.

Wait you said "nothing like the air force" when you were asked about the living conditions.
Does that mean that they're bad?

No, the Air Force has the highest living standard in the entire Military. They have extremely nice quarters.
I have a picture for you W0w00t, since you like multicam so much.
