In 2 years after completing this academy i will be in special forces. So better don't make me mad.
Umenat, there is a time for lulz and a time to be serious...this is the time to be maybe on the serious side. Truly you do not act like you were in any special forces at all. As far as we know you are a civvy with a heavy interest in weapons (Wanna be RussiaFPS?) Or some private in the military acting like hes a baws. Anyways, unless you are purposely trolling us...please start acting proper.
My day to day responsibilities are to maintain the helicopter and make sure it is flight worthy. I do inspections, servicing, and small maintenance tasks that come up. I also launch aircraft and recover them when they come back to land. As I am in a flight troop, the maintenance we do is small day to day upkeep of the helicopter. The Maintenance troop does all of the big tasks, mostly engine replacements, transmission replacements, and other things like that. For your second question, I decided to start this thread so that you guys could get to know me a bit better, and get a Facepuncher's perspective of life in the military. I enjoy telling people about it.
Pretty cool. I would assume you would have to have good eyesight to be a chief...oh and how much longer do you plan on staying in the military?

You just have to pass the standard eye exam, and have vision correctable up to 20/20. Now, pilots on the other hand pretty much need to have 20/20 vision. It is not the on-paper requirement, but it helps a ton. I plan on staying in the military as long as I can. I plan on becoming a pilot, preferably for Kiowas at first, then proving myself to the 160th.

You realise you can swear on facepunch, right?
Anyway, enough derailing the thread.
Question for you OP, Have you ever had any problems getting along with other soldiers?
Question for you OP, Have you ever had any problems getting along with other soldiers?
In BCT I did. I got into quite the fight with this one guy who pissed me off all the time. Good thing I was wearing my plates, otherwise I would have walked away from that one with several broken ribs. Since getting to my unit, I have got along with everybody. It is pretty relaxed here, and you really NEED to get along with other people because we all rely on one another to get work done and watch each other's backs.

Anyways...again sorry for this but...

The problem here is that i am not an actual troll, i just acted in wrong way, and facepunch got bully against me.
What is the weather like at its worst? At its best?
What is the weather like at its worst? At its best?
At its worst there will be lightning striking everywhere and torrential rains combined with heavy wind. At its best, it is around a perfect 70-75 degrees and not much humidity. Of course, since it is the summer that won't happen for a long time. Today the heat index is at 110 degrees fahrenheit. I hate all the humidity here.
[editline]19th July 2012[/editline]
Ok guys, I am off to the hangar. Depending upon what time maintenance gets done today, I might be home sooner rather than later. Keep the questions coming, I will answer them all when I get back.

Roger that. How was basic training like?
Post some pictures!

nobody cares. IF you are actually going into the special forces then i'm sorry to all your peers at the academy, they must hate you for throwing your weight around. maybe you'll realize you arent special or better than a civilian in those 2 years though so there's hope for you yet! if not you probably shouldn't ever have a gun in your hand but thats just my 2 cents carry on everyone

I don't have any problems with my peers in academy.

HOLY #@$%#$%!@$@#%^%
NO!
Do you actually believe in our military's cause, or are you just doing it as a career for the good benefits? I just hate our military, but I don't hate the people in it necessarily, I understand some need a job and it's an easy career to get into, not to say you aren't working hard, but it beats the hell out of college.
I just don't like that military personnel get some sort of obligatory respect just for being a soldier. To me, you get respect based on your character, not what job you do. Especially in the military's case, because killing people is so respectable. but please don't let this turn into a fight, I'm just curious what your reasons are for being in the army.
What's the funniest thing you've witnessed since joining the army?
Hey bro. I got my lubricants all over your aircraft. Imma go do some elec checks on some gun systems. Have fun.
Roger that. How was basic training like?
Basic training was easy, as long as you did exactly as you were told. Drill Sergeants are not out to get you, but to train you to be a Soldier. Unfortunately, some people don't get this and they constantly screwed around and got the rest of the platoon in trouble.
Do you like MLP?
Yes. It provides something simple and good natured to enjoy as an escape from the stress of the job. I have an account at fobequestria as well. However, I am disgusted that a person would wear a patch like that on their uniform, especially at a con. First of all, that is not an authorized patch. Second, you really are not allowed to wear your uniform to random places. There are other ways of identifying yourself as a member of the military. I also do not think that going around making pony jokes and posting pony pictures EVERYWHERE is a good thing to do either. It annoys me, in fact. Take this how you will, but it is not my main focus, nor does it detract from my abilities as a Soldier.

Well, I believe in the military cause, which is to defend the nation and the citizens of the US. I would say that the cause and the benefits are part of the reason behind me joining the Army. However, my main motivation for joining the Army was to become a helicopter pilot, which I am still working on achieving. You may not like that we get respect for being in the military, but it is because most people view it as taking a special kind of person to sign up to voluntarily go to hostile corners of the globe. I don't demand your respect, though it is nice to have random people shake your hand and thank you.
What's the funniest thing you've witnessed since joining the army?
Good question. I think the funniest thing I have witnessed since joining the Army was an impromptu NASCAR race with the gators around the flight line. You had to have been there.
Pictures!
I will take some today, and also dig around for some.
Ok guys, I have to go to SRP now to get all of my pre deployment shots and HIV test. Keep them coming! I will answer when I get back, and I should be here the rest of the day.
Hey bro. I got my lubricants all over your aircraft. Imma go do some elec checks on some gun systems. Have fun.
This is funny, because today I was doing a transmission drain and service, and in the process of taking the transmission filter out I spilled a lot of transmission oil down the side of the aircraft.
Skeea, have you ever been sent on training in other countries?
When i was a apprentice chef while i did my mandatory military service in HJK in Porsangermoen before they got relocated to Rena, i met several different units from America, Netherland and England doing winter survival training.
For me they looked like the typical special forces type. But for all i know, some of them could've been in the same branch as you.
The funniest moment i remember was the english soldiers in training was when they learned how to ski down a small hillside, they didn't manage to stay on their feet on their first try. What i remember in particular was one of the english soldier standing all the way back fell and hit the guy in front of him, causing him to fall on the next one and it went on 'till every one of them was face down in the snow.
Do people call you Chief like in Battlestar Galactica?
If not, what awesome nicknames do people have?
What was harder, BMT or the tech school for crew chiefs? (I'm not sure what tech schools are called in the army)
I'm back, and newly infected with smallpox! Now onto the questions.
Skeea, have you ever been sent on training in other countries?
No I haven't. The Army doesn't need its crew chiefs training in other countries really. In fact, I saw a lot of other nations training their personnel at my AIT.
Do people call you Chief like in Battlestar Galactica? If not, what awesome nicknames do people have?
No, chief is exclusively reserved for warrant officers. This might surprise some people, but the Army is not big on nicknames. The Army doesn't even have nicknames for pilots either.
What was harder, BMT or the tech school for crew chiefs? (I'm not sure what tech schools are called in the army)
BCT (Army Basic Combat Training) and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) were both difficult, but for different reasons. BCT was harder in the physical aspect, and AIT really tried my mind and my patience. I would go with AIT, because it was 13 weeks of bullshit when at the barracks, with the only highlight of our day being going to the schoolhouse to learn our MOS. My instructors were incredibly awesome.
[editline]19th July 2012[/editline]
By the way guys, if you ever join the Army, prepare for TRADOC bullshit.
