[QUOTE=Desert Rat;36864585]I love this guy, he helped me out a lot. Props to you.
How often do you go out on patrol?
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
Scratch that, just read your post about not having been deployed yet.
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
Also, I don't know if you remember me, but I've decided on 13 bravo and very excited to enlist![/QUOTE]
Nice! Artillery is pretty awesome. 'Course I remember you!
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
Also, I have not deployed yet, but I will be deploying very soon. As in within a couple weeks soon.

In the Army do you have the option to volunteer for deployment?
[QUOTE=l33tkill;36864754]In the Army do you have the option to volunteer for deployment?[/QUOTE]
No. You are given orders.

18 in that picture, 19 now.

Sheesh, you're not much older than me. On that note, do you regret not doing at least a couple years of college before enlisting?

No. I did not want to get any loans, and I knew that the Army would pay for a ton of it. In fact, I am enrolled in college courses right now, and they cost me nothing.
[QUOTE=SKEEA;36863632]
We have questionnaires occasionally. Mostly, it is trust in each other and the whole battle buddy system. We are all trained to recognize suicidal tendencies in our buddies, as it is such a problem.
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
Hell no. I will be completely honest, I was a goddamn wimp. My pre-Army PT test I did terrible on. 17 pushups, 16 situps, and 2 mile run in 16:45. My PT test now I got 52 pushups, 80 situps, and 2 mile in 14:09. The military does a lot for your athletic ability if you push yourself.[/QUOTE]
I don't really plan on asking any of the patients who are veterans where i work, so Ill ask you, Why do you think the suicide rate is so high?
I consider myself a wimp at 30 pushups, 12 pull ups, and 25 sit ups. So that's nice to know you got through basic in similar shape/worse shape than me.

This is the main reason im considering the military. Nursing school, and school in general is expensive as fuck, even with awesome grades you'll still need to take out some heft loans. How much of your college will the military pay for?

Thanks for the . . . compliment :P. Anyways I think the suicide rate is so high is that the Army has been deployed a ton. Think about back to back 15 month deployments. That is why we went to 9 month deployments. You see some shit over there. Even if you don't, it can be very stressful. Some people just lost the will to live due to being away from home more than actually being at home. There are certainly other factors, but I think that is one of the contributors. As for your college question, it depends on the school. I don't know exact numbers, so I suggest reading up on the TA (tuition assistance) program.
One last question, then ill vacate this thread.
How do you feel that you will be deployed to a foreign country, in a potential war zone for uncle sam, yet you aren't legally allowed to drink for another 2 years?

To put it bluntly, I think it is a bunch of bullshit. It floors me that the government thinks me mature and intelligent enough to be trained on several weapons systems with the full intent of using them to kill enemy combatants, as well as trusting me with repairing multimillion dollar aircraft, but not responsible enough to have a cold one.
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
Also, no need to vacate the thread. I love answering questions.

Ok guys, it is 1155. I need to get some rest. I should be on about all day tomorrow, as I feel like crap from the vaccines that I got the other day (especially the smallpox one ugh). I will answer any questions posted in the interim when I get on tomorrow.

I have piss-poor stamina, what should I do to build that up so I dont feel like puking after sprinting for one minute?
I've been thinking about the USAFA, but if I really want it I need to get my act together for this year's schoolwork. My problem is wanting to enjoy the present too much which leads to the procrastination, instead of focusing on my future to motivate me.
I never really got into any sports but I've been weightlifting a bit and getting in much better shape, I need to work on losing some weight. I'm going into my Junior year now but I'm not entirely sure how applying for USAFA works, I've heard that you need to contact a state representative or something. Another route is AFROTC at a college, I'll need to learn more about how that works.
I'm definitely capable, my problem is not trying hard enough and slacking off which only leads to me hating myself when I go over my grades.

It's a federal law, that affects everyone from my understanding.

lol, elitist

Every branch is serving for the same country, it's up to the enlistee to decide which one they truly want to take on. They each have different roles but that doesn't mean one is better than the other.
I have decided to stay up for a bit because I am having some trouble getting to sleep.

No exception at all I am afraid. Anyways, two good exercises you can do are 30-60's and 60-120's. 30 seconds of full-on sprint followed by 60 seconds of walking. Do that for about six laps around a quarter mile track. Once you do these for a while (as in a couple weeks), you can do 60 seconds of sprint with 120 seconds of walking. It is one of the things you will do in basic too.

If you want some more advice on how to apply, go talk to an Air Force recruiter. The Academy is very competitive, so you will need to just buckle down and do the work you need to do to get in, as in getting pretty much straight A's. I had the same problem as you in high school. I now know I would have been a lot happier in high school had I procrastinated less.
[QUOTE=Desert Rat;36865691]I have piss-poor stamina, what should I do to build that up so I dont feel like puking after sprinting for one minute?[/QUOTE]
For me, the old fashioned way of building up worked. One day go at a comfortable pace and see how far you get, then the next time try to go a little further, and repeat.
I did this on treadmills at the workout room in my school for about 13-16 minutes every other day of the week and even though I didn't really lose any weight or fat (I have no diets at the moment, I just eat whatever is available when I need to eat), I got myself up to running a mile without slowing down to walk.
Wish you were canadian dont ya? Drinking age here is 19.

Not really, I like being a citizen of the US. Though, if I was stationed in Germany, then I would be able to drink, as I am not on US soil.
Ah, touche my good man. I am still pondering whether to join my Canadian Forces (Either with AF or Armed Forces). Have them pay my education for engineering :p. Only thing stopping me is my Fiance.. ^^;;
Hey everyone! Just got into this forum stuff. Im SKEEA's roommate and partner in crime as a crew chief!!
Are you guys best friends?
[QUOTE=Zarjk;36865974]Are you guys best friends?[/QUOTE]
We have completely opposite views on everything, but we get along very well. I went to AIT with him. So pretty much, yes.
oh no there's two of them now
HAHA yes! Best friends! And we are here to fuck some questions up. haha
[editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
You should hear our day-to-day bickering. Its almost like its not a normal day without our daily dose of friendly arguments.
Exactly what do you do as a Crew Chief?
I would never join the army myself in this situation, but that's probably because my country sold all tanks, which would be where I'd go.

I do daily maintenance on the helicopters in my flight troop as well as service them, launch them, and recover them. Cerberus, as he is in the maintenance troop, does big maintenance, such as engine and transmission replacements. Crew chiefs for Kiowas do not fly with them, but the blackhawk and chinook guys fly on their respective air frames.
Which really sucks because they love to hold that above our heads. But we always come back with, "at least ours has weapons." Then the argument normally dies down from there.
