wait uh since you guys are pre-deployment, are you wearing your issued multicams HOLY SHIT I CAN'T STOP ASKING THESE KINDS OF QUESTIONS AAAAAAAAAA
No, though I think we will be authorized to pretty soon. Don't worry, you will get your multicam stuff soon enough. [editline]20th July 2012[/editline] Ok Facepunch, I am tired, so I am going to go to sleep. We will field questions in the morning. 'Night FP.
Exactly what weapons are you given to fight with should you be deployed? M4,Heckler&Koch SMG,Tank, what?
It is worth it to me because it gives me a very steady paycheck, great job skills, a good education, and the people are great. I also do it because I felt the call to serve. It might sound a little cliche, but I love the USA and I defend it proudly.
The call to serve yourself with a paycheck, great job skills and a good education. A wise man once said:
Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism - how passionately I hate them!
Civilians know you are acting in self interest, so stop trying to gain a false sense of respect, and be honest with yourself. Here's some life advice son:
When the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists. Next best is a leader who is loved. Next, one who is feared. The worst is one who is despised. If you don't trust the people, you make them untrustworthy. The Master doesn't talk, he acts. When his work is done, the people say, "Amazing: we did it, all by ourselves!"
The government is the fear/despise tier of authority figures.

I don't have any questions for you SKEEA, but I sincerely thank you for your service, and wish you luck on your deployment.
Civilians know you are acting in self interest, so stop trying to gain a false sense of respect, and be honest with yourself.
No, I don't act in self interest. In fact, one of the Army Values is selfless service, so go figure. Also, any respect I have gained, I have earned through my respecting other people. I don't really go around insulting people, or lording my position as a Soldier over them. In fact, being a Soldier means that we are pretty much lower than civilians due to the fact that we, you know, serve them. So I am honest with myself, however you seem to be mistaken as to what I think and believe. What time is it where you are right now?
What time is it where you are right now?
1048 CST
Can you please explain, as best you can, at least, how demanding or tough basic training was for you?
No exception at all I am afraid. Anyways, two good exercises you can do are 30-60's and 60-120's. 30 seconds of full-on sprint followed by 60 seconds of walking. Do that for about six laps around a quarter mile track. Once you do these for a while (as in a couple weeks), you can do 60 seconds of sprint with 120 seconds of walking. It is one of the things you will do in basic too.
Once again you help me out tremendously. I will start doing this. I love you man [editline]21st July 2012[/editline] Speaking of multicams, did they switch those to the standard BDUs now and we no longer use ACUs?
Can you please explain, as best you can, at least, how demanding or tough basic training was for you?
For me personally it wasn't that difficult. Your schedule was set for you, your every movement controlled. Your only responsibilities were to follow your orders and to maintain your equipment and self. The PT was there to strengthen me, and the Drill Sergeants were there to motivate us. You just had to do as you were told and it was a cakewalk.
For me, the old fashioned way of building up worked. One day go at a comfortable pace and see how far you get, then the next time try to go a little further, and repeat. I did this on treadmills at the workout room in my school for about 13-16 minutes every other day of the week and even though I didn't really lose any weight or fat (I have no diets at the moment, I just eat whatever is available when I need to eat), I got myself up to running a mile without slowing down to walk.
I'll try this out too. Thanks a ton, man!
Once again you help me out tremendously. I will start doing this. I love you man [editline]21st July 2012[/editline] Speaking of multicams, did they switch those to the standard BDUs now and we no longer use ACUs?
Nope. They are an operational camouflage only for those going to Afghanistan. The Army is currently holding trials between several patterns for our next standard camo pattern.
Basic was not as hard as it was cracked up to be. Yeah, there was a few difficult obstacles being as Im afraid of heights, so the repelling tower and the confidence course were tough. But people give basic this huge reputation and make so cracked up that stops people from going in. The worst part about basic was the sleep, they took some away from you but you still got what was necessary. Other then that, you got fed, sheltered, and a bed. All the while doing cool army training exercises. And for those afraid or discouraged to join due to weight issues, dont be. I was 6'0 and 225 pounds going in. I came out of AIT at 6'0 and 185. Passing every physical demand the Army needed.
God damn I'm a hell of a lot less scared of joining basic now. My main fear was stamina. As I said I cant sprint for more than 30 seconds without wanting to puke, so I was always afraid I'd have to go on these mile-long runs and I just wouldn't be able to do it. How are the meals? Answer my question now please?
Can I add you on steam Skeea?

[editline]21st July 2012[/editline] I thought everyone was being shipped to Afghanistan now.
The meals aren't bad depending upon where you go for basic. At Jackson the DFAC is pretty nice, and the meals are fulfilling. I know that at Benning, you might only get MREs and some Hot A's to eat. I don't know about Sill though. For your second question, yes that is where everyone goes on deployments now, but the multicam is for everyone who is deploying there. Everyone else is in garrison so they are required to wear the garrison uniform, which is ACUs. [editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
Exactly what weapons are you given to fight with should you be deployed? M4,Heckler&Koch SMG,Tank, what?
I am sorry, I must have missed it when looking down the page. Apologies. We are all issued M4's unless our role designates that we get something else. I was issued an M4-M203 because I am my platoon's grenadier. Some get issued M249s and others get M240B's. The pilots get issued M9s and M4's.
When you first get there, they aren't gunna run everyone to death. The DS's main goal is to build your body up to standard. Yeah you'll go for like a mile run a few days after you get to your basic training site. But when they say "run", its more like a slightly faster power walk. The meals are actually not bad. The ones in AIT were the worst. You'll learn to have to count down the minutes to each chow time,, because how many calories you'll be burning it'll make you feel so out of energy. You will feel like sleeping everytime you sit down. Or even lay down while pulling security with your weapon pointed. That happened to me before. DS's didnt think it was too funny though. You'll learn to love anytime you will get to eat.
Can I add you on steam Skeea?
Certainly!
I only got a M4.. but I know how to use the hell out of it!!
I am super excited to enlist now. [editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
Certainly!
http://steamcommunity.com/id/desertrat/
Will you eventually end up on the front lines? If so,would you be willing to kill someone simply because you were ordered to?
In todays war there is no real "front lines", guys who arent direct marines or infantry typically go on a lot of patrols, and they can be just as easily shot at as any other MOS. I think its less of "being ordered to" and more of "they die or you die"
Hey SKEEA,do you ever play TF2?
Ageed. You dont pull the trigger first then you die. Simple as that.. And I would kill an enemy if it came down it.
Will you eventually end up on the front lines? If so,would you be willing to kill someone simply because you were ordered to?
Desert Rat's answer is actually pretty good. There are no "front lines" in this conflict. They will attack you anywhere. I am also willing to kill because they are trying to shoot me or my buddies, but you don't really get ordered to kill anyone. We train to respond instantly. [editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
Hey SKEEA,do you ever play TF2?
I used to, but not anymore. The whole hats thing and crazy wacky weapons put me off quite a bit.
Yaaay I got it right! :D
So SKEEA's roommate. Ya like gettin' dirty with the fuel and lube? Oh yeah, I bet you do. Just askin' because the aircraft just sharted a whole bunch of fuel out. I gotta go do some forms, be right back. Serious question though for both of you. What aircraft do you do? Are you balding? Almost all crew chiefs I know are balding.
