maybe this is just me but I thought portal 2 was leagues above portal 1
Half-Life 2 is the best by default because without it this site wouldn't exist.

Portal 1 and 2 are different enough I can't really compare them. They're going for two completely different tones and ideas it's hard to say which is "better"
The core gameplay concepts are the same, and 2 does them better, and the setting is the same, but that's where the similarities end. 2 was more of an adventure game with puzzle gameplay, and 1 was a straight up puzzle game with a unique setting and tone.
