I'd say the main difference here is that Fire Emblem is a lot more RPG-ish. The fact that a characters aren't replacable (People die when they are killed) can be quite frustrating though if you're going for no deaths. It's not that bad in this game as the review mentions since you can "re-class and restart" a character now, but the older games could be a bitch.
Both great games made by the same awesome company.

Only played The Sacred Stones but yeah, getting one of my characters killed was very annoying, especially when it's about the enemy getting a critical hit with only 1% chance of doing so, fucking bullshit man.

You're fine with lots of flaws, plotholes, shitty editing, badly cut and placed music, bad sound quality, the same plot thrown onto the same character in a different setting, the same cheesy comedic situations, the same old Hollywood suspense model, the predictable comedic or dramatic events. All that jazz.
I don't care about graphics. Graphics are only a plus. Cheapness and simplicity will always have an impact, because that will usually affect the gameplay and overall enjoyment. But if it's fun, then it's fun. Like Qbert. But the DS is just another fucking Nintendo handheld, that's what I'm saying. There are just as many fun "new" games for that like all their other handhelds, and every other handheld on earth. Also consoles. The DS is nothing unique, new or innovative. It's just another damn handheld with a pen. The pen is indeed a nice touch though.

I have both, and I can honestly say that while neither of them get much regular use, I play my DS on trips and usually leave my PSP at home.
The DS games I have are just plain more fun.
I might break out the PSP for Persona 3 PSP though.
In the end though, they're about equally worthless since I never use either of them when I at home.

It's great fun and if it really is just milking a franchise it wouldn't had gotten awards and good reviews. I know critics and reviews aren't always a source to know something good but hey, a lot of critics and users says its good including me and it sold well, that means it is good. A system does not make a good game, a good game makes a good game, no matter what system is. It's taking advantage of the system that matters. Hell if Chinatown Wars didn't have the GTA name on it, people like you would probably already be playing it and liking it better.

People like me would never play on a handheld so no. I'm personally disgusted by most handheld consoles in general so all I say about it is biased anyways without much experience.
It's fun to play 2D sidescrollers for a week or two, after that they get pretty boring. I use Znes whenever I feel like playing any good old retro games.
