I find Japan to be a shithole because of the extremely high demands for education they have to live well. Anyone not living in the city is pretty much bound to be dirt poor and having a rough time. Not to say the ones living in cities have it well either. Basically that's it, seeing as it puts a great impact on everything else about living in Japan.
But as always, probably a cool place to take a visit to for a week or two, just like most countries, like France, Spain, USA, etc etc. But actually living there? Oh man. Nononono.

Actually, I address my sister by her fist name in English, but by calling her "younger sister" or similar honorifics in other languages and vice versa. It may sounds odd in English, but not so much in other languages.
