talked a bit on steam and msn, played 2 hours of Supreme Commander, went on other forums, and went out with friends for a bit.

Well not really. But I finally found the source of the manly tears from an old MGS4 comic.
Copypaste description:

At first it sounded like a cheesy action movie or summer blockbuster. Which it is, just with a better plot than most. The artstyle is awesome, Ikegami Ryoichi knows how to fucking draw. It's pretty cool how much it evolves from a simple action plot, to stuff about the importance of family, and what it means to be the heir to a throne. Twas' a good read.
