Yep, Harry Potter is a relatively decent series. The books are pretty cool (I used to read them, up until Goblet of Fire), the movies are good to an extent, and the games... well, they're decent enough, though I only played the first two. The end of the second one was pretty awesome, using Godric Gryffindor's sword to throw fireballs at the Basilisk. Although looking back, I think that they should've let you actually get closer to the Basilisk, and let you slash it with the sword, like in the book and movie. The end of the boss fight wasn't as consistent with the book as the movie was. In the book and movie, Harry kills it with the sword, but gets a fang lodged in his arm as he shoves the sword through it's brain. He then proceeds to stab Tom Riddle's book with the fang, destroying Voldemort again in a spectacular light show with Riddle's form disintergrating. Then Fawkes comes along, drips it's tears into the wound, saving Harry from death. But in the game, they just cut that all out, and the Basilisk just dies from the fireballs, falls down with it's mouth open, and it's fang stabs the book as it falls, causing Voldemort to fade away whilst yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...". Not as dramatic as the book/movie.
Same goes for the final boss fight of the Philosopher's Stone game. In the book/movie, Professor Quirrel unravels his turban, revealing Voldemort on the back of his head, parasitically bound to Quirrel. After stopping Harry from fleeing by summoning a barrier of flame, he tries to take the Philosopher's Stone from him, but Harry is protected by the love of his mother, which causes Quirrel to disintergrate when he grabbed him. Then Voldemort's ashen ghost rises up and knocks Harry out stone cold. In the game however, Quirrel takes off the turban, twists his head around, and BOOM!, Voldemort is in control of the body. Harry tries to flee, but the firewall stops him. This time, Voldemort simply cast Avada Kedavra spells to kill Harry, and Harry could only counter by using Flipendo to stun him, then flip the Mirror in the middle of the room, and get Voldemort to reflect his Avada Kedavras right back at him. And when he finally beats the dust, he simply explodes in a wave of energy, knocking Harry out.
I know they musta put in that version of the boss fight in to make it a bit more of a challenge, and i'm ok with that version, it was a nice challenge. It's the ending of the boss fight that displeases me. What they shoulda done was this: Voldemort stumbles back in pain from the last AK (Avada Kedavra) spell he got reflected back at himself, then he teleports to Harry, and tries to strangle him to death, but his hand disintergrates, like it did in the movie and book. In one last attempt, Voldemort attempts to cast a final AK, Harry lunges forward and plants his hand right in Voldemort's face, disintergrating his face/head like in the movie. Voldemort is reduced to ashes, Harry takes the Stone out of his pocket, then makes some short monologue about the Stone, whilst Voldemort's ashen ghost rises up in the background, and as Harry turns around, Voldemort rushes through Harry, knocking him out stone cold, like in the movie. That would've been awesome, and given me fonder memories of the game.
But as they say, what's done is done. In conclusion (sike), the first two games were decent enough, although the final bosses didn't follow the story as well as the book. I haven't played any Harry Potter game after Chamber of Secrets for PC, so I don't really have any kinda opinion on the later Harry Potter games, and since then, i've kinda grown outta them. I prefer the second game over the first, since it's expanded on the whole Bertie Botts' Every Flavour Beans thing, making them a vital part of the gameplay as a currency to buy the things you might need.
The Wiggenweld Healing Potions were also a life-saver, meaning I could heal more easily, not having to depend on those annoying Chocolate Frogs as much, and the Wizard Cards had more of a role to play, with collecting all 40 Silver Wizard Cards opening a secret door, which I never succeeded in doing. The games also featured Peeves the Poltergeist, who sadly never appeared in the movies, so that's another of the game series' redeeming factors. The spell-learning process was a lot friendlier in the second game. In the first, you had to trace the symbol, keeping the cursor between the lines, which was hard for me. The second had a simpler system, where the wand moved along the symbol, and you had to press the arrow keys when the wand moved over the arrows. Much simpler, and much easier. Although the only thing about repeatedly succeeding in perfectly completing each symbol round was the reward of house points. It wasn't like if you did very well at learning the spell, the spell would be more powerful or anything.
In conclusion (for real this time), I prefered the second game to the first one. The second had more action and puzzle in it than the first. Come to think of it, the second had more of everything...
Thus ends my opinion on the first two Harry Potter games. Also, you think YOU'RE a nerd, dcalde? I've got more Nerd Points spent on my skills than you, boi. I gotta MUCH higher reading on the Nerdometer. :clint:
holy shit wall of text
Yep, we need a Nerdy rating.
Lol. I like Heavy Weapons Guy.
Lol, I'm in the middle of a battle with 200 orc archers (mine) vs like 800 Heavy and Light Dwarf warriors. ;-;
I think I might be able to kill them if I do it right, the dwarves are slow so I'm just leading them on a goosechase around the map.
What game?
FUCK, ran out of arrows
