Nightmare House 2 scared me at some points.
It's a free game modification, but I think you need HL2:Ep2 for it to work.

Or you can play this game

Nightmare House 2 had a lot of situations quite similar to Penumbra.
Exmortis
When F.E.A.R was released in 2005, I thought it was pretty scary.
It only applies to the first one in the series though.
Fear wasn't scary. Fear was sick.
Fear wasn't scary. Fear was sick.
FEAR was all about cheap jump scares.
Corridor 7: Alien Invasion. Fuck me, Shit gets me everytime.
I remember playing this when I was 6.
Shit was terrifying as hell back then.
I bet you that at some point in this thread someone will mention Big Rigs
max payne 1&2
In my restless dreams, I see that town... that Sairento Hiru
Games that rely on jump scares are not scary. That is why Amnesia is pants shittingly horrifying, its all about atmosphere and thinking, plus theres no "OH A MONSTER THAT POPPED OUT OF A VENT HOW SCARY *blasts with instakill RPG*" kind of stuff, you are just a normal person with nothing to defend yourself with against the horrors that are thrown at you.

exactly this. But I don't get why people say that Metro 2033 is scary. It isn't scary but it does have such a brilliant atmosphere that will make you cum your pants if you're into that sort of thing. The Librarians weren't scary either. Cool character design sure but not scary
Bioshock 1 had some creepy moments, especially in the Medical Pavillion.
Bioshock 2 wasn't, though. It was all "I'M A BIG DADDY FUCK YOOUUU."
scariest game i ever played on computer, not dead space, not resident evil. It was X3. It takes a year to go anywhere and you're just completely useless on combat. The controls suck and the trading system was broken, You had missiles but you could not shoot them, The entire battle consists of you flying around the enemy for days shooting at them but nothing hits them because your bullets are weak, The pirates can kill you in one shot, and it takes years to move from place to place, And the learning curve is extreme. It is the scariest for the fact they call it a game, But it's highly unplayable and boring.
X-COM: UFO Defense
Condemned: Criminal origins. Absolutely best horror FPS ever made. Also FEAR, FEAR: Extraction point/Perseus Mandate and FEAR2 makes a good choise
Just got scared shitless in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.
Dem labs.
Amnesia is way overrated IMO
Yes it was scary, but not that much.
Inb4 *you just ran through it*
Just no

What makes it not scary? I'm curious.
Thief 3: Deadly Shadows.
Anybody who has ever played through the whole game would agree with me.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

The question would be, what makes it scary?
The only scary part was the water monster.
Everything else was just darkness and ambience! wooooOOOooo

Christ, am I the only one that merely got annoyed with the water monster? How is it even scary? But nah, Amnesia is scary, mainly because you scare yourself waiting for something to jump out.
Dead Space isn't fucking scary.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
That used to be scary when I was little.
I bet you that at some point in this thread someone will mention Big Rigs
The scariest game of all time has to be...
Big Rigs
scary maze
Garry's Mod.
DarkRP.
Its community.
Scarier than any game ever made.

FEAR 2 started off being scarier than FEAR 1, but then it didn't actually change any of the enemies so it got less scary.
System Shock 2. Every PC gamer needs to at least try it (also I think it's abandonware now, maybe? Probably want to check on that.)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia is one of the most intense games I've ever played.
Invisible water monster. **Shudder**
...and all of the FEAR games, even though they like to use cheap scares sometimes.

The only scary level in that game was The Cradle.
