Turning 21. Actually waited to drink. What should I try?
I don't understand this. Why keep drinking something if it tastes bad? Why not just drink things that are actually good from the get-go??
And even when you "acquire a taste" for something, it doesn't start to taste better, you just become desensitized to how bad it is. This doesn't only apply to alcoholic beverages, or even the consumption of food/drink for that matter.
I try every new alcoholic drink passed to me but they all taste like hell. The only ones that I liked were extremely sugared down beverages with low alcohol content like Seagrams winecoolers and Mike's Hard Lemonade. (OP try these, they're great.) I understand that drinking is also a social thing, but still. I just don't really understand the whole attraction to "acquired tastes" as a means of recreation. It just doesn't seem as satisfying as drinkers make it out to be. Just get me a burger and a soda.
I'll get boxed to hell for this, and I'm sorry. It's just my two cents, with my recommendation to the OP in there shoved in.
at first, you'll see it this way
but once you get used to the taste of beer, it feels refreshing and warm, like a hug that you drink inside your stomach
i just both described why i like beer and emasculated beer in the same sentence :v:
try tsung tsao, it's a japaneese beer that i find to be pretty good.
since tsung tsao didn't come up on a google search i'm assuming you're talking about the chinese Tsingtao. I quite like it as well. Singha is probably the typical Thai beer. They might have Changa if they're well stocked but it isn't super likely. Good Japanese beers would be Asahi and Kirin, they might have those.
One fifth or sixth Jägermeister and rest redbull
Too damn good

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is one of my favorites, pairs great with pretty much any food. Most stouts are also pretty smooth, if not a bit dry. I like milk and oat stouts. I wouldn't get drunk on any beers like this, though.
Favorite cocktails are moscow mule, long island iced tea, and AMF. Drink enough, and each one of them can fuck you up real good without you even realizing you're drinking alcohol.

I had a variant of this using some flavour of Monster or Rockstar (might have been purple), with that vanilla and cinnamon spiced Jager
It tasted amazing
Just grab a case of Natural Light you'll love it.
honestly fireball is fucking amazing as long as you're okay with your throat tearing itself apart

I used to have this same exact mindset until after I turned 21 and started trying a bunch of different drinks because I wanted to be able to appreciate drinks that are offered to me; If I ever end up going to some dinner party or something and the host decides to open an expensive bottle of wine I'd want to be able to tell the difference between that and the cheap boxed wine from the supermarket. Being able to differentiate between different drinks also gives me an idea of what a person's tastes are, kind of like how you can figure out what genres of music someone likes based on the artists they listen to. It's just something else to relate to.
I've been trying new drinks for almost 2 years and I still don't think you're wrong about the general taste of most alcoholic drinks, though. In fact, I've yet to have a beer that I've enjoyed the taste of enough to think that it was good "as a beverage" alcoholic or not, rather than "for a beer," except maybe Founders all-day IPA (which coincidentally has a lower alcohol content than most beers) because it has an interesting citrusy, bitter taste - kind of like biting into an orange peel, which I think is kinda refreshing.
Which kinda goes back to the whole thing about it being a matter of taste or an "acquired taste"; I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't like it just because it is bitter since it's an IPA. Like if the IPA style of beer were compared to dubstep music as a genre, it would kind of be like if someone didn't like Skrillex (Founders) because they think dubstep (IPA) is "noisy" (bitter). Or maybe they like dubstep but don't like Skrillex in particular. I'm sure my analogy has its flaws but I hope it at least gets the point across.
At the end of the day though that's just my personal reason, I'm sure plenty of other people do it for a completely different one.
Cream liquor is great to start off with, just put a splash of milk in the glass and it'll be perfect.
(Kraken) Rum & Coke
Vodka stinger (4 parts vodka, 2 parts Crème de menthe).
If that's to strong for you, try a white russian (1 part kahlúa, 3 parts vodka, as much cream/milk you want). It tastes like butterscotch and milk with a hint of coffe.
Also, get quality vodka like smirnoff or absolut vodka, the best thing to come out of Sweden :v:

Buckfast, so you get fucked fast. :freakout:

tsingtao is Chinese and tastes like dishwasher. try Kirin ichiban instead
you should only drink a real classy drink, like Steel Reserve
my favorite

oh I like to mix that cucumber lime Gatorade with vodka, will get you plenty drunk and then you probably won't have a hangover in the morning. that or mountain dew game fuel hides the taste of cheap gin very well making a heavily caffeinated and super alcoholic hangover fuel
Mike's Hard, it like drinking yummy soda and there's a lot of flavors.

it's like becoming a living breathing walking vagina
How the hell did you manage to wait is what I'm wondering.
Any strong Rum and a dash of coke is never a bad choice. I'd suggest some Thistly Cross cider because it's fucking amazing, but I'd doubt you'd be able to find it in the US. Same goes for my own personal concoction, Mead and Irn Bru.

Can't get more bland of a beer than lager brewed with rice. Tsingtao is a good example of a watery rice-beer.
White Russian is pretty good. I've seen Long Island Ice Tea mentioned, also a good choice.
I'd recommend going with mixed drinks first or straight beer to see if you like it (Corona is good). I'm a rum kinda guy personally and a mixed drink of Rum+Cola is good.

If you're going Japanese go Asahi, best asian beer ever.
If you're going Japanese go Asahi, best asian beer ever.
kirin actually has some flavor. asahi is great if you don't like beer and would rather drink slightly wrong water.
If you're gonna party with a lot of people, I suggest you get pretty darn drunk. I mean, who hasn't drank (and puked) yet at 20 or younger, unless you're a Muslim?
Pretty uncommon behavior for Finland anyways. I'm not saying it's a good thing to start drinking at 13 years of age, but that's how it works for some kids, even those that turn out relatively fine. Then add one or two more years, and the rest of the kids will follow with the drinking in junior high at around 15, then more and more people will get interested..
So yeah it's about time you get pretty darn shit-faced if you ask me, coming from Finland, but don't go absolutely over-board, cuz maybe you'll die or get shot, I don't know.
Disagree entirely with this^
I would recommend caution if you're drinking for the first time. There is absolutely no good reason to drink so much that you vomit. I've been drinking since I was 16, had a lot of wild nights, and still pride myself on never having ended a night by vomiting, or literally not remembering the night before, which is what happens with some people when they're not careful about what they drink.
If you rush into the decision to get shit-faced with no experience of what it's like, you'll not only regret it, you might not drink ever again. Don't let a bad experience stop you from enjoying something that can be a lot of fun while also leading to opportunities to meet people.
bottle a bucky. tan it in wan
Whiskey and rum are the only hard liquors that I like. Rest are disgusting.
If you're gonna try whiskey then I recommend Lagavulin 16yo, it's still my favourite brand out of the ones I've tried. It has a very strong peat/smoke flavour, pour yourself a glass and add a few drops of water to bring out the aroma.

I've never ended a night by vomiting because I keep drinking after throwing up
I don't recommend going for hard liquor immediately. Just don't. If you've never had a drink before you will most likely end up vomiting on yourself. Really good tasting hard liquor can also be very deceptive and you end up drinking more than you can handle.
Just go for a good beer. Beer doesn't get you too drunk too quickly. Especially first time drinking you'll want to be careful.
Also eat first, drink a glass of water every now and then and have cold milk in the fridge for the morning after. I heard from a nurse that milk is actually given to drunken teens in hospitals.
Just trying to be helpful here. I have seen with my own eyes first time drinkers passed out with vomit all over them and it's not a pretty sight. Don't be one of them.
Drink only authentic Russian bread-based malt liquor
One of my personal favorites are apple ciders like Angry Orchard. Really crisp and tasty.

Good tips here. Learn your limits. If you don't want to feel like shit, the water thing is a lifesaver. I never get hangovers if I make sure and drink at least a glass full for every 2 drinks. Also, load up on foods with vitamin b, and maybe drink peppermint tea. They will help if you do have a hangover. Also sleep. It helps.
Fruity blended drinks are king lot of alcohol without the terrible taste.
