The Sarcastic Fringehead, oh yes, I remember this from Ripley's.
More or less it does this as a way to ward off other fringeheads. They are extremely aggressive, and males will lock their mouths together and "wrestle" for long periods of time
Looks like a facehugger, more so like its Prometheus sister.
It looks like Craptasket's distant cousin.

Just like Uncle Terry and I used to do.
NB-252 Mother plane is preparing to give birth to an X-15 in mid-air.
On a related note, the Russians tried the same thing during World War II with TB-2s and 3s and I-16s and used them in the early stages of the German invasion and with success although by 1942 the missions were ended because both the TBs and I-16 were obsolete.

And the German did a similiar thing later in the war with Mistels which were planes converted into remote controlled bombs that were carried and launched from manned aircraft and they used them against bridges, but with negligible results and United States did a similiar with B-17s, but to no success as they all either crashed or were shot down.

Caboose piqued my curiosity, so I looked up the X-15 on Wikipedia. Apparently it was cool as shit.
The North American X-15 was a hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft operated by the United States Air Force and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as part of the X-plane series of experimental aircraft. The X-15 set speed and altitude records in the 1960s, reaching the edge of outer space and returning with valuable data used in aircraft and spacecraft design. As of September 2015, the X-15 holds the official world record for the highest speed ever reached by a manned, powered aircraft. Its maximum speed was 4,520 miles per hour (7,274 km/h), or Mach 6.72.
During the X-15 program, 13 flights by eight pilots met the Air Force spaceflight criterion by exceeding the altitude of 50 miles (80 km), thus qualifying the pilots for astronaut status. The Air Force pilots qualified for astronaut wings immediately, while the civilian pilots were awarded NASA astronaut wings in 2005, 35 years after the last X-15 flight. The sole Navy pilot in the X-15 program never took the aircraft above the requisite 50 mile altitude.
Badass.
I feel kinda bad for the navy pilot, must suck to know you missed the opportunity to qualify for the space program.
Sea butterflies go with the flow, as they'll drift in cold winter waters along with ice floes. They are called "ice-floe angels" because of the mysterious way they swim with their winglike arms. Their heads will open up when they make an attempt to catch their helpless prey. Once its head is opened, it grabs its prey with six special feelers called "buccal cones".
