Around 60% of all Soviet POW's were killed in German captivity, either being worked to death or just thrown in death camps. After the war, what POW's survived were sent off to Siberia by the Soviet government. They were viewed as cowards and traitors for having surrendered to the Germans instead of fighting to the last round and dying. Most of them remained in exile in the Siberian wastes till the day they died.
It might also be important to know that of the 200,000 of the German 6th Army that didn't evacuate from Stalingrad, 100,000 were captured, only 15,000 would ever see life outside of the gulag.

It's actually around 5,000 and they weren't released until the 1950's.
If you want to read a good biography about being exiled into the Siberian wastes and spending some time in Gulags, check out "Sniper Ace" by Bruno Sutkus. The first half of the book is how he attained his 200+ confirmed kills as a sniper, and the latter half is 40 years in exile.

I never really thought about it before, and I've just assumed all German soldiers during WW2 was what we called Nazis, because I've not heard anyone call them anything else than Nazis.
But I suppose it makes sense that their military was split up into multiple systems with different names and such. Suppose the Nazis just were the most "popular" of the bunch.
The "nazi soldiers" were just the ones that belonged to the Waffen-SS, which was the military branch of the Schutzstaffel, the actual nazis
