Fun fact: The Spirit Lake we see now is not the Spirit Lake from 1980. When the mountain came down the lake was almost immediately filled with debris. The old lake and the former Spirit Lake Lodge is now close to 100m below ground now.
I was just in the "Animal Intelligence" thread and I glossed a few videos of crows. It's amazing how almost-human-like its movements get.
Funeral procession of founding father of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew People were queueing 8 hours just to say goodbye to him, under 30+ degrees of sun and humidity. I went there at midnight, and its incredible, never seen something of this scale. And holy crap, the efficiency. Everyone was orderly, free food, drinks, seats and even umbrellas were given out. And when you enter, it felt really surreal and quiet.
Just waiting for one of those "PUT AWAY THE PHONE AND EXPERIENCE THE MOMENT" people to come along.
is this a serious thing yes, put the goddamn phone away, just because you post on social media that you saw the pope does not enhance the experience you can see photos of the event from actual photographers regardless
is this a serious thing yes, put the goddamn phone away, just because you post on social media that you saw the pope does not enhance the experience you can see photos of the event from actual photographers regardless
Why do you care?
Sort of makes you realise how fucked we are if a supervolcano erupts.
What's the point of recording some event if it's for certain that it's being recorded with professional equipment also and can be afterwards found on the internet?
Because it's nice to have a picture that YOU took of the event.
Because it's nice to have a picture that YOU took of the event.
Half of your picture will literally be other peoples heads, hands and phones though
Same reason people take photos of natural wonders when thousands of professional photographers have already taken far better pictures of the exact same thing, and theirs aren't full of lens glare and accidental fingers - it's nice to have something that you did to record the thing you are in awe of
Half of your picture will literally be other peoples heads, hands and phones though
The point isn't to get a well composed shot, it's to capture the sentimentality of having been there. Nobody there is trying to be a fucking photographer...
holy fuck guys I came here to look at pretty pictures not phone arguments

The owl and the light coming through the holes ones are cool, rest are pretty generic.
Man, i'd love to have a pet crow. I just have absolutely NO clue on how to get one.
Crows don't even exist in New Zealand outside of the deep hinterlands (read: Literally Mordor). I'm fairly certain our University had to import crows from America to study. Speaking of Mordor, have a panorama of Mt Doom. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9a/Tongariro_Park_panorama.jpg/1920px-Tongariro_Park_panorama.jpg[/t] I've been on that exact trail twice myself. Definitely recommend it to anyone who likes NZ and doesn't mind walking.
