Oh that is real. Also, you might notice all the smoke even before the shockwave hits - That's because everything in a large area around the bomb instantly catches on fire. It upsets me that scientists thought detonating a nuclear bomb would ignite the whole atmosphere. Yet they were told to do it anyway.
It upsets me that scientists thought detonating a nuclear bomb would ignite the whole atmosphere. No one seriously thought it would happen.
They still did the first tests close enough to population centers that towns would have been irradiated if the weather was different, simply because the full effects of fallout weren't known yet. Some cattle were irradiated by the test and kept for study at Los Alamos and Oak Ridge, too. Even the tests in Nevada irradiated huge parts of the plains and midwest, though in levels low enough that they were considered "safe"

If I'm reading the article correctly, would it be a stretch to say this is basically machines making artwork? Taking ideas from memory and combining them into a unique image in ways we're naturally compelled to is basically how humans make art, so I think it's not a huge stretch to call this kind of work "creative", something that's always thought to be intrinsically human.
That would hurt like a bitch if you stubbed your toe on it
concrete effectively has no less give than oak planks in the circumstances of stubbing a toe
concrete effectively has no less give than oak planks in the circumstances of stubbing a toe
I mean it kind of does. There are good reasons why it hurts more to fall on a carpeted floor that has concrete beneath it than a carpeted floor with wood beneath. Wood is far less rigid and a bit less dense than concrete, which always gives it a little bit of spring and bend. Wood effectively absorbs some of the force of the impact, whereas concrete (which is great at compression strength, meaning it don't squash good) doesn't absorb much of the impact at all, leaving your toe to get hella fucked.

Looks like it's just many layers of glass
-snip, did not refresh-
It's not. The light would also refract different if it was many layers.

Besides, I'm fairly sure most if not all of these pictures are renders.
I think the image I posted might have been a render.
I wonder if one day in the future, CGI and real life will be so utterly indistinguishable that advertisements will have to feature little symbols in the corner to show which they're using. Seems like one of those things which will be a future necessity.
