Thank god I don't work in London, its awful even when the Tube is running.
I like that it outlines the tree. That's so surreal.
Holy fuck, that's got to be one of the biggest coincidences ever with how far apart and separated the lightning and tree are from each other.
What happens when the London Underground is shut down:
Don't tube workers make 35k+ a year just sitting on their ass?
Yeah just sitting on your ass only requires one full year of training. You have no idea how hard those jobs are.. Small example, my uncle drove trains. He suffers from PTSD because of all the suicides. Thats only the emotional side, think about all the technicalities!
Don't tube workers make 35k+ a year just sitting on their ass?
They are responsible for the lives of those hundreds of people on board the train among other things. They're not just "sitting on their asses".
They are responsible for the lives of those hundreds of people on board the train among other things. They're not just "sitting on their asses".
They kind of are though. Could say the same about bus drivers but their job is far more difficult. Anyway this isn't the thread to discuss this so have a painting [t]https://parabolicabytva.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/rhe-for-blog1.jpg[/t]
Looks like standard inner-city traffic in America to me.
America tends to have really nicely planned cities with long straight roads with that grid pattern. The UK doesn't. You'll have to take it on trust that driving round london is hell even at night when there is no traffic. Vast 1 way systems, windy roads, crossing the river, small tight side streets, not logically planned for cars, areas with no public access so you have to go round the block. With traffic added it can take a long long time to get anywhere. + everyone tends to drive like an asshole there

Although it's probably one of the only cities here that isn't on some sort of a grid
It's excusable when your cities are hundreds of years old, built on a system designed for horse and carriage. [editline]9th July 2015[/editline] I look at pictures of places like Paris and wonder how anyone can own a car there.
America tends to have really nicely planned cities with long straight roads with that grid pattern. The UK doesn't.
Grids in the cities, sure. But lord help you if you encounter a "spaghetti junction" out there on go. Our's in Georgia is notorious enough that it even has its own Yelp! page.
I stole this off Twitter: It's a picture of modern Beijing that looks like it's from Blade Runner.
I didn't realize what thread I clicked on and at first glace my very first thought was that it was from some Blade-Runner knock off.

Driving in Moscow is hell. There are highways, tunnels and overpasses here and there, but this doesn't help much for some reason. Luckily or not, but Moscow metro can't afford the luxury of a shut down at all. I remember the Moscow blackout in 2005 when people couldn't use the subway, and this resulted in literally millions of them flooding any ground public transport in sight and causing collosal traffic jams on the streets. The city just stood still. Americans are lucky their cities are relatively new.

speaking of crazy traffic: This is Kelley Square, in Worcester Massachusetts. 7 Roads converge in one spot with only stop signs, and once you are in the square nobody has right of way. Note the accident currently in progress.

I've had the misfortune of accidentally driving through that. Every time I've gone that way since I've had to plan how to avoid it.
Who thought designing an intersection like that, or whatever the hell that is, would be a good idea?
It's the result of slowly adding roads and then an interstate offramp right there which constantly feeds traffic into it. back in 1857 it probabaly made sense (Green street is the one that runs vertically through the first picture)
speaking of crazy traffic: -clusterfuck- This is Kelley Square, in Worcester Massachusetts. 7 Roads converge in one spot with only stop signs, and once you are in the square nobody has right of way. Note the accident currently in progress.
Adding on to that: Although it's less of a mess than the one you posted, I think this is worth mentioning. This intersection in San Antonio, Texas has five roads converging all around one spot. Traffic is horrible here in the morning because of how busy it is, and I've seen it closed/slowed at least twice because of accidents. At least this one does have traffic signals, if it had anything less it would be a lot worse.
Americans are lucky their cities are relatively new.
You would think that'd make a difference, and overall it really does, but somehow human ingenuity finds a way to fuck it up. Or sometime people don't even try like in Houston, like they wanted the old world style. City planners just closed their eyes and said, "surprise me!" [editline]11th July 2015[/editline] To a degree, they kinda did. There's no zoning code.
WEST coast is with a city layout that has automobiles in mind, EAST coast those didn't exist when the cities were build, so they are designed for horse and carriage in the middle can be either or depends on how old the state is

Great.
So the first person to make a CD was also the first to hold it wrongly. Great.
Supposedly one of the demonstrations had the guy spread peanut butter and honey on the disc. Of course, everyone watching screamed because that would destroy a disc normally but because of how the CD differed he wiped it off, put it in a CD player and everyone applauded to the sound of Mozart.
