Is that not the Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä? Search his name, that picture pops up a lot.
Not sure, actually. Might be Swedish, might be Simo. I think that's a Swedish Mauser, though.
It's a Mosin Nagant M91 apparently. http://www.simohayha.com/ Remember, this is the guy that on his own killed over 500 invading Soviet soldiers.

http://www.simohayha.com/ Remember, this is the guy that on his own killed over 500 invading Soviet soldiers.
Nah, the original caption is right. That rifle is definitely not M91 nor M27 which Häyhä used, looks like a Swedish Mauser to me. Also, why would a sniper have a bayonet attached?
Also, why would a sniper have a bayonet attached?
It's probably posed, because what kind of sniper would let a photographer sit around with him to give away his position? It was probably long after any actual fighting, and the journalist told him to put the bayonet on to make it look cooler (because idiot journalists are not restricted to the current times - stupidity is a human constant).
Nah, the original caption is right. That rifle is definitely not M91, looks like a Swedish Mauser to me. Also, why would a sniper have a bayonet attached?
I have absolutely no idea. This is kind of strange, I'm guessing it all narrows down to the picture being commonly misconceived as a picture of Simo, when it may in fact be a Swedish soldier.
should i do historical photos or propaganda?
Do both. Just don't flood the place with generic WWII images because it's almost certain the image has been posted before and it gets old really damn fast.

Also, why would a sniper have a bayonet attached?
Some firearms are sighted in with the bayonet affixed, removing the bayonet can alter the accuracy of the gun if that's the case, though if you're a dedicated sniper one would think you would have the rifle re-sighted to make up for the lost weight on the barrel. I experience it all the time with my Mosin.

Reports from the fight said Ali told Liston to “get up and fight,” but Liston did not. His farewell speech inspired anyone with a pulse. "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth," he said. If I didn't know any better I would think the above is from the character selection screen in Unreal Tournament 2004.

Capsule hotels are a fun concept. It'd be an interesting experience to spend a night in one of these, on the assumption that it's dirt cheap anyway. [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6d/CapsuleHotel.jpg[/t] Odd, but endearingly efficient. You probably wouldn't want to spend more than a single night in one of these things, though. I would be extremely down for a plane build around this concept, mostly because the idea of a bed on a plane sounds nice even if you can't stand up. This bus seems to be built around that concept.
Kind of sad.
Why is it sad, exactly?
Why is it sad, exactly?
Perhaps because of the First World War breaking out one year later. Chances are fairly high that the son got killed during it.
Perhaps because of the First World War breaking out one year later. Chances are fairly high that the son got killed during it.
That would make every photo of a soldier in uniform "sad" because "war x started y time later".
That would make every photo of a soldier in uniform "sad" because "war x started y time later".
I'm guessing spoder55 found this particular picture sad because of the enormous casualty rate during the Great War. Just saying it's likely he didn't live long after that picture was taken. That doesn't apply to every war in history. Who knows, the father might've outlived his son.

No worries, go to the bar and meet other fellow first class passengers. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/aGv274L.jpg[/img_thumb] But maybe you had too much at the bar, and partied too hard and worked up a sweat. Wouldn't want to be smelly for the rest of the flight. So you take a shower in the bathroom. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/8rKYzhP.jpg[/img_thumb] After all that, you're finally tired. So you retire back to your seat, close the doors, recline and let the massage chair lull you to sleep in your complementary pajamas. there shouldn't be anyone who can afford that kind of luxury. [editline]22nd August 2015[/editline] i'm going to invent a plane seat with an automatic hammer hidden in it and it knocks you out every time you wake up. 14 hour flights will fly by like they were nothing and you won't even remember being at the airport
They should offer flights where they drug you. Would help me put up with screaming children.
there shouldn't be anyone who can afford that kind of luxury.
I don't understand this mentality.
They should offer flights where they drug you. Would help me put up with screaming children.
It's called the airport bar. Last flight I had that had me going across the states, I hit the nearest bar, ordered a few gin and tonics and just when I got seated I just took a nice nap. It's also the best excuse to get drunk in the afternoon.
I don't understand this mentality.
i don't care how much money you have spending $32k for absolute comfort on a say 14 hour flight is ridiculous.
