despite my contempt for japan weaboo kawaii , Gundams are the coolest.
I don't really like gundams, I am more of a Zeon kind of guy.
the only time I like a gundam is when just about everything is a gundam.

just sayin
Eastern mechs often come from stuff that is apparently not allowed on Facepunch, although I still kinda find their designs for humanoid mecha pretty damn awesome, although I can't say that i'm all that big of a fan of the Super Robot genre. That said, I'm also a fan of western-style machines such as the RDA AMP suit, as well as the traditional biped.
Speaking of tanks and mechs, I like mecha depicted not as tank replacements, but as another component of a combined arms team. The Heavy Gear wargame and Patlabor does this nicely. If you try to go head to head against tanks in the 1st Heavy Gear game you'll get your ass kicked. In the movie Patlabor 2 you see a single ATGM carrier make short work of a mecha platoon.
They'd probably make a decent replacement for mechanised infantry keeping the mobility and giving far more flexibility from a Humvee or armoured car. Don't really need to create another section of a combined arms team, just replace the infantry instead of the tank.
I picked both because I'm a loser.

Come to think of it, most of the Mech's downfalls could be negated by good infantry support.

A mecha still a vehicle with the same battlefield vulnerabilities. As a replacement for mech. infantry, can they dig in, clear or emplace obstacles and minefields, protect tanks in urban and wooded areas, or infiltrate to attack enemy positions? In short, they're not as flexible at what's it's trying to replace. Your everyday mechanized infantry don't use HMMWVs or armored cars and I don't see a mecha being a good nor effective replacement for a squad of mechanized infantry and its infantry fighting vehicle.
Who needs to carry 7 guys when you've got auto targeting guns? :v:
Who needs to carry 7 guys when you've got auto targeting guns? :v:
Well, those auto targeting guns can't dismount and act as infantry. You're just a walking gun platform which will gravitate its role as a fire support unit in practicle and then you're left with nothing that can effectively occupy or defend ground without dedicated engineer support which defeats the whole purpose as mechanized infantry replacements.
Well, those auto targeting guns can't dismount and act as infantry.
Don't dismount? The point of mechs is Shock n' Awe. They don't try to take down gunmen in buildings. They take down entire buildings.
Also Armored Cars are kinda used - APC and BTR can be called as such.

MBTs as well can take down entire buildings given the proper ammunition and time, but that's a task better given to engineers than combat units. If the points of mecha to you is shock and awe, then time to form a psychological warfare unit attached to units in the field rather than outright replacing an already effective combat arms.
BTRs are wheeled APCs. By armored cars I mean light vehicles like BRDMs and VBLs.
Sorry EU always wins.

Both are sexy.
I like both, but transforming pisses me off.
And, will always like Western Mechs more than Eastern. Simply because they look functional and warlike in a way no eastern style has managed yet.
Mechs are generally awesome, but the stereotypical Japanese ones tend to look retarded.
And the newest Front Mission game make me want to choke a bitch :argh:

But usually I prefer the Mechs in the Mechwarrior games. 2 names that stick from the second game are "Mad dog" and "Clan Jade Falcon"

As much as I love GitS, the Tach/Fuchikomas were a bit too cutesy for my liking.
I have to say western. I Prefer the idea of a thing designed for actual military use. They usually end up more aesthetically pleasing anyway.
Western, only because they vary quite a bit more.

Unless if you count transformers.

I would like to see all the Japanese/Korean mechs fight all the Western mechs.
I vote Eastern man
