I told you I wasn't talking about that show.
Forgive me then, didn't notice you we're speaking about the genre.
I said biomechanical synthetic humaniod. I mean it's obvious that a pilot would have better control over a mecha if they were linked through their mind rather than pressing buttons on an interface or moving joysticks. If someone isn't in the right mental state, then their pilot capabilities are severly reduced, obviously. The show is so damn dated that it's what made the whole, "add a psychological aspect your mecha show" trope popular. There was never even any fanservice episodes at all.
Of course ones piloting capatibilities are reduced if you're mentally down/retarded. That's obvious. There is not one shit thing deep about it at all. It's just common sense. It affects EVERYTHING, even writing a letter to your letter-friend about what you've done the past weekend.
And as I've always said about NGE, I can completely understand why people found it to be awesomesauce... BACK THEN. Nowadays I just don't get it, it's not deep, it's not original, it's not really well made other than some good animation at times, it's a big fucking clichè.
And indeed, it didn't really have fanservice at all, kind of.
For me Evangelion is srs fkn bsns. Automerge broken.
No problem :)
Another thing that bothers me with these shows is that for some reason emotionally unstable kids in their adolescence years always end up in the most powerful killing machines on earth.

It's some fucking robots, a depressed main that has to work his way through his depression with the help of his friends to save the fucking earth through the use of a (biological)mecha. Throughout the show he faces new dangers, one harder than the other and he would not have been able to beat them if it was not for the support he gets through his friends that he hangs out with, and new friends he gets throughout the story. His friends helps him find a reason to live giving him the strength required to be able to fight.
What the shows says 1032423523 times in your fucking face:
You can not live without love. You need friends to be truly happy. There is no I in teamwork. There is always someone who cares about you. And blablabla, all that shit.
I can see how this shit was awesome back then, because back then the stereotypes still hadn't become that stereotypical, and all this shit was deep because you didn't hear it on every fucking show, commercial, movie, magazine, piece of paper, school, dust and atoms. Also the animation was high class as hell back then.

He gets no support from anyone, even his dad treats him like fucking shit. He manages to make 5 friends through the course of the whole series; [sp]1 dies horribly, 1 dies/is severely injured under his own doing, 1 goes batshit insane, 1 moves away in fear of death from destruction of attacking Angels, and the other was an Angel who he kills on his own accord.[/sp]
His friends helps him find a reason to live giving him the strength required to be able to fight.
Every single victory that Shinj's unit has can be attributed to his own strength or his Evangelion going berserk and winning. He pilots the mecha because he just does, nobody ever told him to stop. He would rather avoid confrontation instead of being hurt.

This statement is somewhat true. In the final two episodes (where the introspective experience starts) he believes that he is hated by everyone because he thinks they do, he realizes this is false since he just thinks they hate him since he hates himself. Thus he comes to the conclusion that he can only be loved if he places value in his own personal being. The last scene in the series involves everyone standing around him clapping saying, "Congratulations." because he finally was able to admit that even if he has faults, those faults are what make him the person he is, and he is able to love himself.
I've worked this through my head multiple times and the conclusion I came to on the theme of this series is that: if you love yourself, you have reason to live, and if you have reason to live, you can be happy.

What's a yukkuri
What's with the goth ads?
What's a yukkuri

A meme involving giant, disfigured heads resembling those of Touhou characters. It originated on 2ch in early 2008 when an Anon tried to make a Shift_JIS portrait of Reimu and Marisa and failed horribly. Another Anon thought the failed attempt was humorous and drew the infamous original picture (shown below right). Ever since that fateful day, yukkuri heads have dominated parts of NicoNico and made cameos in numerous other pieces of Touhou fanart. Their catchphrase "Yukkuri shiteitte ne!" literally means "Do it slowly!", but has been more loosely translated as "Take it easy!" by the English-speaking Touhou community. This remains the basis for many of the jokes centered on yukkuris.
Since then, writers and artists in Japan have produced a huge amount of yukkuri material, making an entire ecosystem based around their various forms. Even ZUN appears to have made a small official acknowledgement of the yukkuri phenomenon, with a line of narration reading "The rocket has been destroyed!! This is no time to be taking it easy!!" in Silent Sinner in Blue Chapter 12.
From what has been gathered through comic shorts and translations, mostly from anonymous contributors on 4chan's /jp/ image board, this is a peek at the yukkuri world. (Note: since yukkuris are entirely a fan creation, no standards exist. This means the many artists often make their own facts and rules.)
He gets support from everyone (-father), you just haven't noticed it, the same way Shinji doesn't really notice even though he gets a lot of it. You need to read their words less literally, not literally like Shinji does.
He pilotes the robot striving to get his dad to cheer him up and feel like he's doing something. He also through his friends and allies supports understands how much everyone else ALSO SUFFERS, he originally believes he is the only one in pain as the little emo faggot he is, ignoring his surroundings and his near friends and think they all live without danger and pain, which is proven wrong to him in several ways.
It's starting to be a while, so can you spoiler tag the people you're mentioning that die and shit so I can remember?
The strength he gathers is not because of him alone, it's because of what the others has said to him and told him. His strength is based on protecting the few friends he has managed to get.
Exactly, and you can't start loving yourself just by yourself. You will only find faults in yourself and hate yourself more as no one points out the good points in you, and those good points can even be points you thought weren't good yourself.
Mecha section updated.

Alright, they give him the occasional, 'Good job, motherfucker", but Rei says nothing to him, Asuka is Tsundere for him (which isn't good at all, everything is misinterpreted wrong by him). He gets praised by his friends (Toji and Kensuke) except [sp]he kills/nearly kills) the former[/sp] and he gets praised by Misato. When [sp]the final Angel[/sp] Kaworu shows up, he feels enamored by him and believes that he was the one who truly loved him. For the first few episodes everything he does is under his own power, striving to get his father's praise. It isn't until the shit hits the fan [sp]when the Angel wrecks the fuck out of the other mecha and is about to end the world[/sp] where the secret agent minor character tells him to pilot the damn thing since it's something that only Shinji can do. The change is shown when the [sp]mecha runs out of power and he exclaims, "Move, this will be useless if you don't move, everyone will die, etc."[/sp]

Finished the Fate route in Fate/stay night, so far I give this 9/10. I don't mind the reading, I was always an avid reader. Good story if you like the fantasy genre.

Rei supports him through movements. Especially with that glass angel thing that drills through the city where she [sp]risked her life for him[/sp], she also is a huge step for our emo faggot Shinji to believe and trust in himself when piloting as she gives him more trust. Like when she slapped him for not trusting his dads creations, ze robots.
Asuka is a hardcore tsundere alright, but even though she occassionally makes him mad he still gains a lot of support from her, especially from her extreme self confidence that she's trying to throw over at him at times. And I dunno if you've noticed things people do that makes you angry at first, but later you understand that it actually was a good thing and you appriciate it.
But he didn't actually TRY to kill him now did he? I can't really remember anything like that at least. Ge even saved them once and showed them what the hell he had to live through which created the friendship. This is again a big step for Shinji, having two schoolmates praising him for what he does after having seen it really puts a great lot of trust into their words that they actually mean it.
Yeah, Misato is there to (try) and cheer him up everyday, and also gives him more belief in that what he does is actually important and that he can do it.
Kaworu never really was a friend though, he just used him making him a sad panda and creating the most ridicilous keyframe ever lasting for what? 2 minutes of him just holding him in the mecha arm? A very "deep" scene where he's going to do something he doesn't really want to do but knows he has to. Boofuckinghoo.
And you can just imagine how fucking much a praising from his father means to him and his strength. The poor fucker has but only lived up til now stribing to get some of it, then he fucking gets it.
Yeah, in the start it's pure "dad, I want you are love ploxxx!!". Then the rest is built upon that plus all the support from everyone else.

I'd say it makes him more frustrated and confused rather than angry since she wants his affections, but does it in the wrong way ([sp]she slams the door on his face on the night they have to live together[/sp]) leaving him dumbfounded.

Now see here, he indirectly killed/maimed him because of his indecisiveness. If he chose to fight back, he could have lessened the impact on the pilot. Instead he pussies out and his father forces the dummy plug system, which causes the havoc.

Kaworu interpretation is still up for grabs since he is either deceiving Shinji ([sp]killing him wrecks his psyche[/sp] which means good news for those Seele fuckers), or he genuinely wants humanity to live on. Also, that still frame scene was a dick move. Instead of recycling stock footage or using old animation cels they just place a still image. Rushed production dates and low budgets are responsible.
Suffice to say, some people have called Hideaki Anno a legendary troll.

Yeah she acts like a dick towards him making him not understand her at all. Surely that causes a lot of frustration, but that's how many people feel about women anyways, they say the one thing and mean the other, yet you see them in stable relationships. In the start it causes a lot of problems and shit, but when they first are on the same line, they sure damn are on the same line. Like the sync-training stuff.
Oh, now I remember, he was in the other angel. Yeah well, you can't really think rationally in such situations, it's just something that is easy to say on the side. But when reality comes you want to avoid doing as much damage to the person and you kind of freak out so you have biiiig problems thinking further than "don't him", and given how Shinji is in general you can be sure he can't go much further than that.
Yeah, well I never payed much attention to that gay dude anyways :v:
Wrong use of the budget is more like it.
