Sequels I have no problems with sequels but I'm getting sick by people constantly asking for sequels, and I see this everywhere even in this very forum. If a famous game dev says they will announce something, almost everyone would go "I hope its X game 2" In this age of sequels it would refreshing to see new IPs and not X game 4
Ports and how the pc market comes after the consolle one in the developers' mind. I don't think I have to dish out examples for this one..
The lack of control and general free will- how you can't proceed to the next area before your AI teammate goes "oscar mike" and kicks open the door for you. This is far too prominent in games like CoD and BF3 and Homefront and other piss-poor military FPSs. What happened to being the one in control, instead of being dragged around by some dumb AI cunt? [editline]26th June 2012[/editline]
The fact that 90% of all games since 2007 have sucked ass
there has always been a bunch of shitty games. you just don't remember it, because well, they sucked. People using the verb gamer. "I'm gonna game some x", "I love gaming".
iPhone and other smartphones's games. These games are pieces of shits, flooded with comercials.
that's how you can play them for free. if you're that bothered by ads then just pay the 1 dollar cost.
Non-controller interaction.
Motion controlled gaming. I'm sorry, but video games aren't supposed to be played by flailing your arms around like a retard.
A big trend I've noticed is this tendency too make famous games into MMOs. Bioware did it with the Kotor franchise, and now it sounds like Bethesda is going to make an ES MMO too. I was a member of the Kotor fanbase for some time several years back, and I can tell you... the majority wanted a singleplayer Kotor 3 sequel. The idea of an MMO for the next game was laughed at and vehemently ridiculed by just about everyone on every forum pertaining to Kotor. (Not to say TOR is a bad game... I haven't played it so I can't judge it). Point is, companies aren't listening to their consumers anymore. They're listening to the statistics their games track and the moronic 'innovative' ideas their investors demand they incorporate. For example, lotteries in games like STO.
Motion controlled gaming. I'm sorry, but video games aren't supposed to be played by flailing your arms around like a retard.
The sad part is that it has been shown repeatedly that motion capture technology can be put to far, far better use than video games but console makers insist on throwing in cheap gimmicks to fit motion tech into their games instead of focusing elsewhere.
devs being held down in terms of creativity by publishers for example, it took rockstar to publish LA Noire. It had like what, 10 shootouts? no way EA or Activision would sell that. ever.
Lack of creativity, and the fact that people think games need to be as realistic as possible to be any good.
All games seem the god damn same, there seem to only be a few exceptions, with most games being boring generic FPS's or over the shoulder TPS's. Even RPG's are getting boring now the same old formula being used over and over again.
Yeah but La Noire has it's problems, for example it had virtually no replay value what so ever which seemed to be the biggest complaint.
it's a linear story, that's like expecting a movie to be infinitely rewatchable
The fact that games will never change because its so easy to shit out fps games.
Any and all publishers. I cannot remember one game that got changed for the better by the publishers. On a good day, the publishers will do nothing. On a bad one, however, you get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, a trainwreck of a broken game that, the moment you scrape the arcive-files, you realize have so many cool, cut levels, models and functions.
Pay to multiplay. (I'm talking to you Xbox Live) We pay money to use the internet already, why should I pay money to get a 12-month subscription?
I don't like how every game has to be a First person POV. Even Forza 4's standard view setting is FP. I miss 2D 8/16-bit games. Super Mario 3 and Super Metroid was the shit.
What do you Dislike about Gaming Today? What I dislike about gaming today is the term "DLC". What ever happened to "Expansions" or "Expansion Packs". In Games that are not MMOs expansions would expand the game's Content,Lore,Story,Gameplay, and Etc. I do consider Fallout and Skyrim "DLC"s Expansions really. They expand a lot of the game. I can go on, but It would be a long rant. Your Turn :words:
To be honest, I miss the old days when there was no dlc but only unlockables, I think the DLC killed the term "unlockable". Why should I pay for game content when I already payed 60 bucks for the game ?
I was thinking about this the other day and my immediate reaction was EVERYTHING! ALL GAMES ARE SO CORPORATE AND BAD NOWADAYS But really I think its just because when I was younger, I only had 3 games and I was much easier to please, but nowadays, I can't enjoy games, I play them with stratergy and skills whereas a kid I would just die and die and die and eventually do it - but that was half the fun! So really, I don't think games have got worse (To a certain degree) I just think I've got more picky
I remember buying the collectors edition of little big planet 2 I got a few things like a bookshelf stand and shift but also got some dlc previews like one costume from a toy story 3 pack etc. and then they release all of the costumes so all that's left of the collectors edition that's kind of unique is a shoddy bookshelf stand and a poorly made sackboy plush the collectors edition was about double the price of the lone game and even then you can buy the collectors edition at walmart for maybe 50 or something dollars waste of fucking money [editline]28th June 2012[/editline] Related to steam is how you cant connect when there's no Internet connection so no games when Internet is out and you were logged out
I don't like how every game has to be a First person POV. Even Forza 4's standard view setting is FP. I miss 2D 8/16-bit games. Super Mario 3 and Super Metroid was the shit.
Good news, you can play 90% of indie games and relive those years.
Also, I hate modern games because famous game's sequel is not succeeding old one's good feature. *cough* BF3 *cough*
I hate games that are all about looking good. Graphics don't make a game. Story and gameplay do. Also, a game could have good story and bad gameplay, and still be good. The same goes for good gameplay and bad story.

CoD and Skyrim have piss-poor graphics compared to what is possible with current technology, but consolitis holds it back.

People playing shitty mainstream games.
People playing shitty mainstream games.
wow woooow

Grey. Grey everywhere. I think games should cost 50 euros max. So far games that had 60,- price tag didn't deliver as much entertainment as you would hope. Then there is DLC. Pre-order and especially shop exclusive DLC piss me off. DRM is another big mistake. Developers create it to protect their games but they only encourage more piracy. The always online DRM in SP games has to be the worst. Platform exclusives. Well, console exclusives because I don't remember what was the last PC exclusive in quite a long time. Developers saying majority of PC gamers will pirate their game/other bullshit reason, thus not putting too much effort in porting/making the game work on PC. (I'm looking at you Ubisoft.)
