• What Do You Dislike About Gaming Today?

Go out to a retail store and buy a game. Take it home and install it. Wait we can't do that with most PC games now. Instead you have to go to some site which seemingly has very little relation to the actual game, and create an account on that service just so you can install the game. After you create the account or if you already had one for whatever reason, you then have to link your game key to that online account. Can't give your game to a friend to let them play it a bit unless you give them access to your account as well. After it's installed you then have to have an internet connection to play that game even if it doesn't have any multiplayer, unless you want to store your account credentials on your computer. Looking at you Skyrim, Shogun 2 and pretty much a growing majority of PC games these days. Doesn't help it that Steam's success has encouraged competitors (EA, Ubisoft) to force similarly restrictive DRM solutions.
Another thing: I cannot tell you how much I fucking HATE motion controlled games. That's overrated bullshit. I tried the PS3's Move system (Basically like a wiimote) and I could not aim to save my fucking life, it was clunky and impossible to use.
This has probably been said but.. When they release a sequel to a game and use the same fucking engine, and im not talking about those games that use the same engine but are vastly improved, or it falls under "If its not broken then don't fix it" category I think you know what im talking about. CALL OF FUCKING DUTY This takes that phase to a whole new level. "If its broken, leave it broken and reel in the cash because everybody will still fucking buy it"
Motion gaming Activision Console exclusiveness Platform switching every game (looking at you, Kingdom Hearts) Pay to win DLC (Why aren't these free like in old times? Seriously, why do I need to pay more then the fucking game?) DRM Unskipable scenes/tutorials/whatever Lack of mod support Lack of coop games, way too much competetive games Lack of easter eggs Pre-order stuff (aka pre-order to get item no x) Realistic games (who the fuck cares about reality, I just want to have fun) Xbox live Pretty much that's it
Too many sequels and too many "to be continued" bullshit.
How I love playing halo but it's just not fucking colourful (brown of reach and not so much like Halo 3 even though that had lotsa playlists dlc only.) like it used to be and 80$ yearly subscriptions for 100$ fucking games
Another thing I hate is how gamers seem to be dedicated to the idea that a game must give you control over the character all the time. I see a lot of people pissing themselves over games like Max Payne 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4, which have a large amount of cutscenes. I just don't understand how removing control over the character to present the story in a more enjoyable fashion is bad. I'd definitely still enjoy a game completely even if it is 70% cutscenes and 30% gameplay. So long as the gameplay is fun, and the cutscenes are entertaining and add to the story/atmosphere.
Grey. Grey everywhere.
i am alive is intended to be bleak and gray, it conveys a feeling of hopelessness and dreariness. it's most likely what the protagonist is experiencing emotionally. please, do try to do your research sometimes. the other two i totally agree though.

Over Capitalization of gaming, and the dumbing down of games concepts to simple plots and game play mechanics.
I think the price of games today is fucking ridiculous. $79.99 is way too much for a game that lasts 4 hours and barely has any replay value. Sure, I can complain about the prices here in Canada, but I can't imagine how Australians feel.
Newly released games here go for about $80 - $100. I think the worst I've seen is Black Ops going for $120 on the X360, which I had to laugh about. Anyway, I wish for some damn colour in games. I hate games that have the dull brown and gray bloom all over the place and call it realistic. And then everyone touts how amazing the graphics are. Also speaking of graphics, how a game values this over the actual gameplay. I'm going to piss everyone off with this, but GTA4 is the worst contender.
Lack of unlockables. Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 & 2 were great with this. There were so many characters, with special abilities for each character to make them unique. Nowadays it's all just reskins.
Achievement whoring. I have so many friends that do it it's not even funny. "Yes, I purchased wrath of the lamb already, and no I won't play it until the achievements unlock AS I PLAY" ~Tarti Remember when you finished games for fun and satisfaction and not for a 128 x 128 icon on your steam profile? It's never too late to go back, faggot. [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] Oh and also assuming everyone has awesome fucking hardware and overpriced smartphones that can read QR. Yes, I'm looking at you Fez. I stopped playing you for a reason, faggot.
Because they always cock it up. They always manage to do it in a way that disconnects you, that breaks the immersion that keeps you playing. The cutscenes end up so jarring that any contribution they may have had to the story is lost on the annoyance of having to sit through the third one in 20 minutes. Also, I buy games to play them. I don't have the money to waste buying a $60 movie that lets me shoot a few stormtroopers between cinematics. To me, regardless of how well done the cutscenes are, a 70/30 ratio of cutscene to gameplay feels like I got ripped off if I paid more than I would for a DVD. I hesitate to even call such a thing a game, calling it a game implies you play it when in reality you're watching it. Your contributions amount to shooting a few nameless, faceless walking targets. One's actions do little to fuck all to actually advance the plot, and it makes me feel like I'm wasting my time and money when I play a game like that. When I play a game like Fallout 3, where there are no cutscenes, or one like Half Life 2 where I can still move around and smash shit while the NPCs act out their lines, I feel like I'm advancing the story....even if my actions amount to endlessly crowbarring Dr Kliener in the crotch. If you like 'em more power to ya. I, personally, don't like interactive movies all that much.
I miss when games did this. Just drop you off, here's your character, go. No explanation needed. Also I haven't seen a game that started off with a boss fight in a while
Games with auto-aim on PC seriously, some xbox/ps3 ports now-a-days have a slight auto-aim. taken fallout 3 as an example. If you shoot above the enemy then you'll hit his head, if you shoot a mine to the enemy's foot then you'll shoot his leg. Back in the days games had options to turn it off, like Half-life 1 It makes you feel like you are a skillless idiot who needs to learn how to shoot straight forward

Good times.
