There's a remake of Star Control II? I had that years ago but never got a chance to beat it.
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ Not so much a remake I guess, but in a way, yes.
Star Wars: X-Wing versus TIE Fighter Descent FreeSpace

Space Station Silicon Valley
Apparently star wars bridge commander is quite good, though i havent played it (yet!) but from a friends description it sounds pretty awesome. (on a side note, if anyones interested, these guys are making a second one http://second-star-entertainment.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum.php)
Dead Space 2 :cthulhu:
here comes another chinese earthquake ebrbrbrbrbrbrbrbr
Do you know if it will work on Win7 64-bit? If so I'm gonna give it a try.
Works on Win7 64-bit, idk why it wouldn't on Vista 64-bit.
recently found out about evochron mercenary it's like the X series (not as... complex though) and it's an indie game. another cool game is gratuitous space battles. you fit your fleet with subsystems and weapons and watch them fight on their own. star wars empire at war is pretty cool, too. space that is. very nice fights :)
Works on Win7 64-bit, idk why it wouldn't on Vista 64-bit.
I never mentioned Vista 64-bit though? Anyway, thanks for confirming it'll work on Win7. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] Dammit, looking at the game and doing a bit of research, this wasn't actually the game I was looking for. I was looking for Star Control III which doesn't seem to have a remake sadly.
Sorry it was late I didn't read it too well, lol.
Heres a good space-game: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/495903
Mass Effect 2
Freelancer is pretty mission based and too limiting for me. EVE is rock hard and unmercyful but the combat is complex, economy is nice, as is the community. Costs though. I just started playing X3 again, the complexity is insane, and the combat isn't as deep as EVE's, and it has less systems, but if you're into freeform trading and economy games, it might be for you. I don't know any others, but I'm searching too.

I want something that's really complex but easy to pick up at the same time. Planet colonization would be awesome, and entering an atmosphere like Infinity. Infinity should be amazing.
A few relatively unknown games you might like. Privateer: ASCII Sector http://www.asciisector.net/ A roguelike with freeform space flying gameplay - with planet landing and on-foot sections - has on-foot combat as well as in space Transcendence http://www.neurohack.com/transcendence/ 2D sprite-based space flying/shooting game Ad Astra http://www.a-astra.com/ Space freeroaming game, has seamless atmosphere transitions, squadron management, component-based damage, near-infinite universe Oolite http://www.oolite.org/ Not played the original Elite but this seems to be more or less a port of it into more modern technologies Black Prophecy http://www.blackprophecy.com/ F2P real-time space dogfighting MMO currently in closed beta - at the moment you just sign up and wait for your account to get activated - seems pretty excellent for a F2P MMO, lovely graphics Darkstar One is a nice (retail) space flying game, nothing fantastically noteworthy... but it's good fun and probably very cheap by now - interesting upgrade system for your ship Star Wolves 3 is available on Steam - it's like a space flying game, but you control a squadron of ships (and their carrier ship) tactically rather than piloting a single fighter - pilots level up to learn new buff abilities - quite fun but very very hard - english localisation is laughably bad, full of typos and the only voice acting is in the intro
orbiter space flight simulator. It's free, its great, it's alive and recently updated. http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ i hope you can fly.
thisthisthis

I knew of Darkstar One and Star Wolves 3, and signed up for Black Prophecy but I'd heard of Ad Astra before and forgot the name.
Oh man. I was going to suggest X3: Terran Conflict. I think you'd be interested in this. [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/94/StarportGE_Logo.jpg[/img_thumb] www.Starportgame.com Now, before you shoot it down... the whole game is a competition against other players for colonies and experience. It is fully multiplayer and very much alive, so if you don't care about graphics, then this is the game for you. I'm a four year veteran of the game and can really help you get started if you're interested. If you or anyone else reading this post is interested, send me a PM after you install the game and I'll help you get set up on a server. Edit: When you first start the game you begin on the server with limited cash and a starting ship. There are plenty of ways to get started, but if interested I could jump start anyone that wants to play. The game is about invading colonies, but you can also build colonies if you so please.
Actually that game is what got me on this kick, I started it with a friend on one of the relatively unpopulated servers. Endless Ocean or something along those lines, I don't really remember off the top of my head. It's pretty fun, but every planet was colonized forever ago whether people were actually on the server or not. I took over one colony and killed a single guy and now the only other guy in the server besides one of my friends from elsewhere absolutely hates me and my friend, and hunts us down constantly. The ships we have are way too weak to do any real damage or hold out against him. We have two colonies established but I haven't played since then.

I can't believe it's still being played, shit I think I might just give it another whirl.
The following: -Freelancer -EVE -Evochron: Mercenary -X3: Terran Conflict -Sins of a Solar Empire Although everybody else has mentioned these games so nevermind.
