I believe gintama hits it right on the spot- whereas multiple samurai animes fail to do so, in terms of seriousness. Gintama is hilarious, but when it gets to these parts, it tends to be MORE tear jerking than "super serious samurai my sister died" anime.
It's not really a samurai anime once you put in modern references and aliens [editline]23rd June 2012[/editline] Also what is fourth wall
It actually has 252 and is on hiatus
252 episodes full of cool.
But in the case of The Tatami Galaxy, reading speed was definitely a problem. Lots of text, delivered very quickly, and from the start of the series, it didn't give you much of a break between bursts of dialogue. If you've seen it you'll get what I mean (maybe), and if you haven't watched it, then do.
I think i watched like one episode and got bored, because I wasn't in the mood for something like that at the time. I'll go check it out again because it's been a while, and i'm looking for some more anime along the lines of: I'll get back to you about the reading speed in a little while.
i'm saving that for the next time i get together with my friends to watch anime. we watched paprika last time. (it was my second time seeing it)
Watching anime with friends is great. Although for me, I've just about run out of good movies to make mine watch (that aren't kind of boring to watch in a group). Only got Metropolis and Brave Story left that I can make them watch. After that I think I might just go off the rails and make them watch Cat Soup, Mind Game, and Dead Leaves. They weren't even slightly impressed with Pom Poko (although I love that movie, fuck those guys).
Mobile Suit Gintama
But in the case of The Tatami Galaxy, reading speed was definitely a problem. If you've seen it you'll get what I mean (maybe), and if you haven't watched it, then do.
i had no problems with the first episode, except for this part: [t]http://i.imgur.com/VGBM1.jpg[/t] I can't read all of the text going by while trying to read all of the other text on the screen. I kept up with the subtitles, and only managed to read about half of the bubbles before they went away. It's certainly quicker than pretty much every other anime, and i'm sure if it ever gets to a part with heavy amounts of animation it might be hard to keep up. For the most part I can quickly glance at a subtitle for ~100ms, store a "picture" of it in my mind, and read what I saw while looking at the rest of the screen. It takes longer for multi-line subs than it does for single-line though (~500ms roughly?).
Apparently the voice acting for the Gintama movie dub isn't that great but the writing is pretty good Almost impossible to find any clips of it online though
[sp]Everything didn't return to normal, the special forces restriction bill still passed, so currently section 9 could be described as an armed and dangerous domestic terrorist group. [/sp] Could you specify which parts you found unfitting? Also, gonna watch 2nd GIG?
[sp]I was expecting Mikoto to lose her memory of Section 9 or something when she got her head blown off, so considering that everyone got together again without too many changes, it felt like a "and everything is back to normal" type ending to me[/sp]
have you even watched rurouni kenshin
has he even watched samurai champloo, or samurai jack? i mean c'mon, they have samurai in the name they're obviously good.
generally all english dubs are bad and when they try to do emotions its a complete fail. there is exceptions tho.
I'm bored and I don't know what kind of anime I want to watch :( Any reccomendations?Something thats not too serious and has an ending.

bebop dub is better than the original japanese, if you disagree you're literally and objectively wrong and also dumb sorry
bebop dub is better than the original japanese, if you disagree you're literally and objectively wrong and also dumb sorry
sorry, i am the big anime fan, i'm never wrong and dubs are horseshit
sorry, i am the big anime fan, i'm never wrong and dubs are horseshit
even the creators of the show disagree with you (the ask DNA intro video has steve blum, beau billingslea & wendee lee in it, but i dont see unsho ishizuka, koichi yamadera or megumi hayashibara anywhere LOL)
i've got 0 clues on what the fuck you just said
rurouni kenshin: tsuiokuhen
Thanks but I think I'll pass that.I'm not a fan of samurai anime(for some reason it just doesn't interest me.Actually the whole Samurai thing was the reason I hesitated to watch Gintama) So maybe I should rephrase what I said I'm searching for an anime that mainly focuses on comedy.I'm not searching for shows like Gintama where it just goes on and on but I'm searching for a show like Steins;Gate and Durarara where it has some jokes along with a serious(I don't think this is the right word for it) plotline. I'm not really good at explaining what I want but thats the best I can come up with.
