Helghast aren't exactly good natured :v:
not by choice. They got kicked off their home, subjected to persecution, had most of their shit stolen, and the one planet they have left to live on is a shithole that very nearly killed them all. And then it got blown up and everyone on it massacred by gung ho meatheads
they're just desperately trying to survive against an enemy too greedy for its own good, which unfortunately means doing a few bad things here and there. That was sort of the whole background theme behind the game, you wouldn't question whether or not you were playing as the good guys because you have to shoot dudes wearing evil nazi hats, therefore they must be evil, right?
ISA is just jealous their kit isn't as sexy looking.
Yeah lore wise they're not as evil as they appear but the games don't really do them justice since they're pretty much just space Nazis there.

But man their designs just went to shit after 2.

No you play as (wow who would have guessed) a Mercenary who swaps sides because of the money. The beginning of the game has you killing Helghast and midway through you're killing ISA and then you pick neither because of morals or something.

I think they meant that the Helghast arent "bad"

There was actually a Q&A thing posted about them (with extra & unrelated art). The artist said that they're hoping to make a graphic novel out of it and would rather people did not use the Red Knights in anything.
Is this going to be a Game/Animation/Comics?
Truth is that we're still exploring the best medium we could the story in. For now, we have our sights on graphic novels, though estimated time for completion for that one would be close to more than 2 years, since we both have our full-time work and not a lot of time with freelance and commissions on my side. So don't expect anything anytime soon, this is a passion project and is being completely made without any financial backing, we would like to take our time with it so that we could come up with the best, satisfying story for us creators.
Can I use your characters for my D&D/Pathfinder/Tabletop game?
-As much as I enjoy the exposure, I get numerous requests like this and I got to say is that I'll have to decline. I'm still a bit sceptical about doing this as people might just snag one of them off and run away with it and gain $$$ from it. So please understand if I'm being too cautious, it's just that this project is really close to me and that I'd hate that it could be ruined by a brief moment when a fucker would decide to take all the hard work done for themselves.
On the other hand, cosplays of it is fine.
Again, thanks for understanding.

I find Medieval warfare quite boring because there's a lot of wearing the same dull, honestly crappy looking armour like chain mail with a surcoat or leather. Yeah, it is practical, and yes you've got your scale armour here and there and that looks reasonable. Later you've got plate armour that outside of the suits produced in the HRE looks pretty underwhelming, or maybe that's just popular historical culture running it dry.
I wouldn't be able to accurately comment on how far ahead of their time the Romans were with their armour tech but I'm 90% sure you don't see anything much like lorica segmentata again until the latter part of the middle ages.
Lorica segmentata does look quite nice but keep it mind it fell out of use in the latter period of roman rule(although this doesn't necessarily show that it was inferior) and lorica hamata was used throughout the entire period and has the advantage of covering a little more of the body, as well as being more flexible.
Also keep in mind that with maille in the medieval period people would also combine it with other forms of protection, so you would have say a gambeson
[t]http://www.flashweb.cz/kumst/fota/rane-goticky-zbrojnos-2.jpg[/t]
and maille together or in the latter period even with brigandine or plate.
In terms of armor similar to segmentata(lots of metal plates attached to each other or to a garment) i'd say further east lamellar was popular with the ruskies and turks and the east romans/byzantines.

I hate to break it to you but the Romans didn't wear that kind of plate armour for very long. It was hideously expensive and a lot heavier than chainmail. The Romans weren't especially advanced as far as armour making technique. There's a lot of debate on whether or not the Romans even used Lorica Segmentata to any large extent, and I kinda lean towards saying they didn't, considering it just wasn't all that necessary. The lorica segmentata is basically Lamellar but with metal, and pretty much everyone in their time knew how to make it, it's just so damned expensive. The reason why you see more plated armour in the late middle ages is because professional armies started to get really popular, those soldiers get really rich, so they get really well equipped. Whether or not the Romans used the Segmentata during the Empire's peak however, they certainly didn't use it after around the 4th century AD because their bloated empire just wouldn't be able to sustain it.
Im fucking late ignore me.

Never seen that variation of helmet before, pretty cool.
I also quite like the look of visored/closed burgonets, but they aren't really medieval so they weren't included in my last post

I'm inclined to believe these aren't actually bascinets, the non visor portion doesn't really look too similar to the design of one(then again I also can't really see the back portion too well either)
