I've been working at Jimmy Johns for about a month. Keep in mind that the JJ's I work at is not reflective of every single JJ's out there, rather, this is my experience.
All of the meats are prepared in the morning before opening, with the bread always made and used no more than 4 hours after it's made. If you go at either 11 or 2, chances are you'll get warm bread. The "freaky fast" sandwiches is all thanks to preparation rather than cut corners or premade product; all sandwiches are made on the spot and called out right there.
All of the ingredients are fresh, and the food is fast, but that does mean the sandwiches are more expensive. All of the subs are 8 inches, with the cost depending on the meat and cheese used in the sandwich, as well as the bread(/lettuce) used. Side ingredients are default depending on which sandwich you order, but can be changed to your pleasure with no additional cost (except cheese and pickle). While there is no cheese verity, this isn't much of a problem unless you hate provolone (in which case a few sandwiches are good without cheese at all).
Subway is a little different in that Subway serves hot sandwiches and gives larger sandwich per price, but the ingredients taste significantly worse quality. Subway also offers cheese verity, bread verity (JJ's only has wheat and french), and a different selection of meats. Both sell platters.
Honestly, with the 50% discount I get for my sandwiches before and after my shifts, I have no reason to go to Subway, because JJ's is just so much better in terms of quality.
If you ever think about going, the Vito (Salami, Capicola, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, and Sauce) and the Italian Club (same but with Ham) are the most popular choices, with Tuna lettuce wraps and being popular as a gluten free option and the Porker as my personal favorite (ask for oregano and sauce with it, trust me). There's also an all-vegtable-and-cheese sandwich if you're vegetarian. Expect to drop about $9-12 on your meal depending on how expensive your sandwich is (you'll probably want the chips to go with it and the slims just aren't worth it).
I don't know, a fried pb&j sounds like it could be pretty good.
HOOOOOLY GOD NO
Worked at a KFC/Taco Bell for nearly 6 miserable years of my life. Tired of eating shit in store so bring most of my lunches towards the end. I was always pretty crazy with stuff I made in store*
but this one day I had a perfectly good blackberry PBJ. I was about to eat it when my coworker was like "Duude you should fry it man it might be good." I figured fuck it so I wrapped it in a tortilla to keep the bread together and
threw it in for about two minutes. It came out and I let it drain for another minute. Nice and crispy, golden brown like some kind of grilled cheese, looked fucking amazing.
I proceed to take one bite, LOADED with oil, peanut butter and jelly draining out the back. Finished it cause I didn't want to admit how much it sucked.
It might be worth revisiting, but as someone who fried a lot of dumb shit over the years I think its worth saying that its not worth it. Just holds too much oil and makes the peanut butter taste like fryer oil.
(*frying cookie dough inside biscuit dough for a cookie scone, KFC burritos, quadruple down crispy grill sammich, best of all the OG quesarito where I combined a bean burrito quesadilla and crispy strips to make a food abomination. )
I've been to the US twice, I've only had Potbelly, that pizza sandwich is amazing, hope I can find a Jimmy Johns next time.
After having Potbelly I can say yeah Subway is pretty much the McDonalds of subs :V

Toasting two slices of bread and PB+J'ing it is pretty good
Neither is as good as Potbelly's.
JJ can go suck a dick because I've lived less than five minutes away from two and neither will deliver to me.
If I need to leave my house for food I'll go somewhere better.
I never heard of Jimmy John's.
As for Subway, living in Philly and going to Subway is like living in Sicily and going to Pizza Hut.
