I am generally a very caring and empathetic person but she is a special case. She did exactly what you described there. The difference is that I didn't give up on her. Even though she was dumb as a sack of potatoes, I tried to help her as much as I could, even when it negatively affected me. I couldn't do anything for her after we graduated, so I don't know what's going on with her now, but c'est la vie.

It's not like I can do much for this girl now since I only talk to her via the interwebs. It's not as though I suddenly give her horrible bad advice out of spite, it's just that I don't care anymore when she fucks up. Giving a shit and worrying when I think she's going to do something stupid (when she texts me telling me she's drunk and making out with a 21-year-old) becomes a lot easier when you just accept that they're going to be retarded in spite of your best efforts to help and stop giving a fuck about whether they're going to ruin their life. It's not just that she's dumb, it's that she's told me she doesn't give a shit that she's dumb and isn't going to try to improve. She doesn't give a fuck. She just wants to get wasted and party 24/7.
