What about the middle class

It is terrifying.
Dark Souls. Assuming you're in the times that the games take place, there are nearly no sane people left, and even some of those who ARE sane will still try and kill you, because they HAVE to, because you might have conflicting goals. And if you lose hope in that goal, or can't complete it, you are doomed to madness. Or if you do complete it? Death. Or madness. Probably both.
And even if you aren't in one of these Fire-linking Endtimes, life STILL sucks. Everyone's dying because giant demons are all over the place, humans are second-class citizens, the biggest empires are all (mostly) lead by cruel, violent kings and queens who only desire power, with many running on the power of slaves, while fighting pointless wars over pointless things that end up with huge swathes of their population suffering under for no reason other than it might make the rulers more powerful.
Now I'm wondering what the best world would be. The Witcherverse has some peaceful areas but you'd probably die from the plague or something at 30, even Deus Ex runs the risk of your biochip being hacked. Would Minecraft count as a world?
Fifth Element because Chris Tucker is the only TV host in the universe
Wolfenstein: The New Order's world is a literal nightmare for me. Not just for the whole Nazism thing, but just how likely it would be that the white population of Western nations would just grow bitterly complacement after a few more years of Nazi rule. And even if the revolution was successful, there's so many years of cultural damage to repair. The thing that got to me the most was seeing a Nazi flag as the first on the moon. That's just completely revolting to me. Seriously, fuck Nazis.
XCOM(EU and 2)
Getting your ass kicked and subsequently ruled by an oppressive alien regime that [sp]performs mass human experimentation and cleansing by putting people in green goo[/sp]

Surprised no one said Mad Max yet, though it kind of fits in with Fallout.
Also Watchmen. FIVE TERMS OF NIXON.
People are mentioning a lot of worlds where you can die easily, but there is no afterlife. Anything like that would pale in comparison to a world where there's a hell and all but a select few go to it. So I have to choose the Orthodox Christian version of Earth (unless there's a fictional world where an even larger percentage of people go to hell).
If you're going to be anal and say "no but he said the worst world to LIVE in" then it doesn't matter how easily you die, only how painful life is. That means the worst fictional worlds to live in are ones that involve large amounts of forced labor or torture, not ones where you can die easily.
Pacific Rim. Sure giant robots fighting giant monsters is cool and all, but by the time the fight is over everything you once called home is now rubble.
A world that is simply inside of a 1m x 1m box you can't leave.
Diablo.

Everyone's a squid.
An UNDERAGE squid.
Having a squid form would be kind of handy, you could fit pretty much anywhere.
Worried you you'll miss a class in the morning? Have your roommate shove you in his bag before he heads out.
Mad Max, specifically 2 because of how plausible it is.
Pretty much any dystopian world. Blade Runner and Akira comes to mind. And Children of Men.
The world of INSIDE would be a terrifying one to live in...
Deus Ex.
detroit
or gary in indiana
Evangelion. There's already one apocalypse that happened and wiped out half of the human population, then Angels start fucking shit up, [sp]and then everyone gets turned into Tang in the end[/sp]

I would love to see a movie or short film adaptation of that world.

STALKER also has a pretty fucked up universe. The games themselves are pretty messed up, but outside that everything is probably normal. However, what we're seeing is probably the start of a world-wide insane madhouse full of crazy anomalies and mutants, considering the Zone expands by 15 kilometers every time a blowout happens, which in CoP is every 1-2 day(s).
Dishonored
Deus Ex.
But that's basically our current world but in the future and with augs?
