Most people who play Alan Wake believe that the villain is some sort of darkness monster, but they're wrong. The main antagonists of Alan Wake are fire axes.
Every mook gets a fire axe. They are supposed to be threatening because they have a fire axe. All that "darkness" malarkey just makes stuff completely ineffective against anything equipped better than a Boy Scout troupe, and the only constant themes through all of the enemies are darkness and fire axes, so the axes are superior by default and must be the true power source they draw from.
These guys are just annoying and not fun to kill especially in groups, they are basically harmless as long as you are good at sidestepping.

These fuckers float around farting out poisonous gas and dropping off torsos with even less combat effectiveness than they themselves have. They're not even threatening in large groups, just super annoying.

Brawlers are an issue early on, but by mid-game they become quite the pushovers.

once you get a II weapon this guys are almost always one shot, hell on a vanguard build the shotgun one shots them on Eden Prime before you even get a second gun.
