Lightshot uploads to Imgur and then embedding this Imgur image in their webpage with advertisements around it. But ShareX gives direct link to Imgur. Also ShareX is open source.
So why would you tell Lightshot is better in this case? Am I supposed to add advertisements around images for people to like it too?
Name one person that doesn't use adblock that is not okay with seeing ads

You shouldn't have to open a separate application

So just people using adblock it is fine to not get direct link to image.

I was addressing one of the two reasons you gave
for quickly linking people on IM, the prntscrn links are fine. For forum posts, I'm totally fine with right click > copy image location

It's not

Okay, if there's so many layers of UI to a fucking screenshot application that it looks like there's a separate one, it's too bloated
Okay, if there's so many layers of UI to a fucking screenshot application that it looks like there's a separate one, it's too bloated
Oh when your software gives link with advertisements around it and many other stuff that link is not bloat? But when ShareX gives helpful feature to people then it is bloated.

I and most other people use adblock -- I honestly didn't even know it had advertisements. I never said it was bloated because it gave you a direct link, I said it was bloated because the application has so much stuff bolted on to it.
By the way, I voted for it on Greenlight, Steam is a pretty good way to distribute software while having it be seen by a lot of people
Bloat in my eyes is a larger than necessary application, having to go through a webpage when everything else is a cinch isn't a big deal to me.
Once it stopped showing my capture history once it never showed it ever again.
Otherwise, no complaints here.

you can do most things via rightclick in the taskbar

Now it just looks like you're looking for reasons to bash it and have run out of your own :v:

22MB of memory isn't a lot at all.
doesn't limit storage (Puush(yes I know you're probably not going to go over 500MB but still, if you use it for a long time at some point you're probably going to have to go cull a bunch of old photos)), it uploads to imgur (Like everyone that screenshots manually does!)
ShareX uploads to a lot of image hosts by default and you can even set it up to upload to many others if you know what you're doing.
simple ass interface
This point could be valid. I'm not familiar with Lightshot so I can't compare the interfaces but I do know that software as customizable as ShareX is tends to be somewhat less streamlined simply by nature.
and I can put a box around something, make an arrow pointing toward something, use a simple pen tool, or add text without much trouble.
In addition to what Scratch. posted there's several different capture methods so it's very flexible.
Not auto uploading means I can be comfortable about using it to save sensitive information and then, without uploading that picture, save it somewhere in my documents.
While I believe it's enabled by default you're completely capable of setting ShareX not to upload automatically. And in addition to that after taking a screenshot you can subsequently also upload it through ShareX as well without having to change settings or anything like that.
if you have your own webserver or bought a bunch of Dropbox/google drive space it's a great option.
This is completely untrue. While ShareX works perfectly fine with those options it also works completely fine with other uploaders as well and in the case of ones that have accounts it can interface with your account on the site (Imgur for example, it can just upload to no account or can be connected to your account) making it really convenient.
I just feel like for most people Lightshot is the best application to use.
You could be right when it comes to people who are very tech illiterate but ShareX is really quite easy to use considering how customizable it is.
I never said ShareX didn't work well with other uploaders, it's just uncommon to have a screen capture program that directly uploads to those -- which is why ShareX easily beats other programs in that department because where the file ends up and if it's there is what matters the most
:words: about auto upload
On first use, it will ask you if you want to upload it
if you pick no, it saves that option
On first use, it will ask you if you want to upload it

Well then that's not an issue. I don't remember it doing that for me but I've been using it for quite awhile now so it may not have been an option when I first started using it.

portable mode :ok:
I'm not tech illiterate, but that doesn't mean I should actually spend time getting used to a screen capture program that is more complicated than necessary for what I want to do
I'm not tech illiterate, but that doesn't mean I should actually spend time getting used to a screen capture program that is more complicated than necessary for what I want to do
Not being tech illiterate doesn't mean you shouldn't know how to read a "we're going to upload this with your permission" dialogue
Other than that, it'll just upload to imgur
like
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's plenty usable without going into settings
did you miss the post that included a bunch of other reasons than auto uploading

don't let my screenshot preference get to you, have a nice time

Check your "Documents\ShareX\History.xml" file error tells line 801 have problem and therefore unable to load it. But all your uploads including the ones after this issue still recorded to it. So if you find that error and fix it then it will continue to work and you didn't lost any URLs.
