i don't see why the IP used matters as long as the games themselves are interesting and varied. they're taking advantage of their well known IPs in a way that doesn't take away from the experience. you're getting mad at them for not coming up with new IPs but you aren't explaining why its detrimental
That is why. It doesn't matter what game mechanics you introduce, using IPs repeatedly makes them stale fast. Even if the game itself is fun, that doesn't make it interesting. Plain and simple, I am tired of seeing Mario in every game ever. Even when it isn't Mario, it is just more characters from another series that Nintendo made back in the fucking Dark Ages. I mean, there is cashing in on popularity and then there is just being lazy. You honestly mean to tell me that you don't get tired of seeing Mario in everything? The Paper Mario games, for example, could have easily used new characters, plot, and a new paint job.
I guess it just depends on how much characters matter to you. If your the kind of person who plays a game to level up or to just have some fun then you probably don't care, but after years of playing video games, I can only manage to stomach playing games I can actually get invested in. I can't be immersed in something I have seen a thousand times.
Mario isn't even a good IP from the beginning, the games are great but the universe of Mario and all his friends and things is kinda boring :v:
Battlefront 3 and Mirror's Edge 2 are going to be okay at best and people should really really REALLY lower their expectations.
Call of Duty United Offensive remains the best COD for me.
They implemented gamemodes never before seen, like base assault.
And its the first COD to add vehicles in multiplayer.
And its fucking fun.
I actually did not like banjo kazzoie because it was boring. I just kept on playing doom 64
VS Saxton Hale needs Warhammer 40,000 bosses.
Nintendo prefers to come up with an idea, and then put a recognisable character onto it, usually Mario. Kid Icarus Uprising originally had nothing to do with Kid Icarus until somebody pointed out that Pit fit the gameplay well, for example.
It must work if they're doing it, and I don't care as long as the game is fun. But calling it the same just because it has Mario slapped on the front of it and not looking at the actual gameplay is idiotic.
Dark Souls isn't a very well-made game. It's rather unpolished and is far too difficult to actually sit down and enjoy.

endurance, melee and one focused stat is all you need. Annoying how you are confined to one type of build.
I never finished Deus Ex. Everytime I get pretty far into the game, I get tired of my playstyle and start over from the beginning and now I've become sick of playing the same thing over and over.

i don't get the feeling that M&L dream team and mario galaxy are similar in any way just because they have the same protagonist. hell the M&L series has a bunch of original shit that isn't in any other game in the series. they're completely different genres, look completely different, and even the individual games in the series are all completely different in tone. no, i don't get the sense that nintendo is lazy because they use mario a lot. the games are different enough. i also don't think its fair that you consider luigis mansion 2 lazy aswell just because they didn't come up with a completely new IP for it, the first luigis mansion turned a minor character from mario bros into the protagonist, and its nothing like any mario game. luigis mansion 2 is a sequel to that game that improves upon a lot of the problems of the first game had and feels completely different. luigis mansion should be considered a completely separate IP imo, how is it anything like mario?
i suppose it comes down to a difference of values, but i really don't think nintendo is lazy at all. i can at least understand having a problem with no variation in IPs but why does that make them lazy? how do you define lazy? do you think putting effort into creating unique games is lazy just because they're not creative enough to come up with a new IP for each new concept? its fine if you don't like them using mario all the time, i get that, but they are NOT lazy.
The last of us, bio shock infinite... A few others too. All a bunch of standard faire bullshit that only got recognition because of legacies.
None of them did anything new, they were extremely linear and both completely lack replay value. Oh I forgot you can play the game through again and I dunno, make Elizabeth spawn different tears this time around? Not to mention Liz herself was an insanely overhyped and underwhelming part of the game. Same with Ellie. After a while they're apart of the world, not your companion.
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
Also ken Levine is a lying little sack of shit
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
And jade Raymond is a cunt
Also this probably isn't uncommon but hitman absolution was utter shit. They completely ruined the game. In short it really is hitman: conviction

Having not played the game, though, I'm pretty sure that Skyhook thing is not super common.
Saints Row 3 fucked up the Saints Row series.
Saints Row 3 fucked up the Saints Row series.
It's so difficult to talk about what that game did well, when the overall disappointment is choking you like a smoke bomb.
I also never found Dark Souls difficult in any way in particular. Unforgiving? Maybe a little, but once I got the hang of it, your pretty damn set.

I still get butthurt when people assume linearity=bad. I don't see how either Infinite or TLOU could be made in an open-world, its narrative just doesn't allow for that.
I hate WoW.
Cod 2 and world at war are great

Difficult? That's the point, and it also takes some getting used to.
However, I would like to see your evidence on why you said it's unpolished.
except for the bed of chaos boss fight but I find it hard to believe that you got up to it
Crysis has good storytelling
I get painfully bored of MMOs very quickly.. usually
I just dont find grinding to do MORE grinding fun
Dark Souls was a good game, the difficulty was fun because there was a ton of high-skill maneuvers you could pull off if you got good, as opposed to enemies just being bullet (or sword) sponges
[editline]12th August 2013[/editline]
plus the level design was awesome

and the lore is really defined aswell
I just wouldn't call it an rpg

Why not? It is pretty actiony, but it still has all the standards of an RPG.

It's a weird game because you have a lot of elements that are standard to an RPG but it's also missing a lot of elements that are standard to RPG's such as actually playing a role in the game.
Sure you have character progression, loot, a weird kind of open/dungeon world but there is no interactivity in dialogue or story, no quests. It's a weird game.
There are plenty of quests. It's just that none of them pop up going "Hey dumb ass, go collect a thing, then head to this place and give it to some guy"

You're right I suppose, it's an old styled ARPG.

Ah, I understand what you mean.
Crysis has good storytelling
for the first game you're completely wrong
but the second and third (and i guess warhead too?) were really quite nice in terms of storytelling. crysis 2 in particular feels like it takes a lot from half-life
people complain about how confusing crysis 2's plot was and i can't help but think that those people are just a bit... simple
[editline]12th August 2013[/editline]
i fucking love hard boss battles, gaming has really been running low on difficult to kill enemies
ace combat zero's nightmarish mercenary aces near the beginning when you have a low end aircraft <3
in fact i generally love unforgiving games (i still have trouble playing dark souls but not because it's difficult/punishing)
