I still get butthurt when people assume linearity=bad. I don't see how either Infinite or TLOU could be made in an open-world, its narrative just doesn't allow for that.
Holy my god and would people stop fucking using the word narrative like they know what it means? I mean for fucks sake really now you're just making excuses for them. YOU DON'T NEED A HIGHLY CLAUSTROPHOBIC AND LINEAR LEVEL DESIGN TO HAVE A GOOD NARRATIVE, FUCKING PERIOD. So for the love of god stop making excuses for their own ineptitude. The only reason why it doesn't work is because they aren't doing it right. I've come across countless games with insanely better stories overall that don't conform to tight corridors. That's the one excuse I hear being. Brought up time and time again, that it wouldn't work for a game to be more open and to have a good narrative. Half life two did this in 04, okay. A little less than ten years later we get infinite, which for all intents and purposes in fact took steps backwards as far as innovation goes. If a dev can't get a good narrative to work without levels being virtual shooting arena corrals, they are shit devs. It's not a matter of it intrinsically not being able to work, it's a matter of ineptitude on the developers side. Oh yeah. And level design in half life two actually made sense. Infinite had some pretty aesthetically poor level design, and in some cases detrimental to gameplay as well.
huh, crysis 1 had the best story telling for me. made much more sense than the second one.
Crisis one was good pretty much until you exit zero g. It's actually quite a shame because as fucking poorly designed and confusing the zero g part was, it was otherwise so good I'd have to say its probably one of my favorite levels in any game. Not only did it one up the sense of mystery and awe I experienced when I saw that one trailer that featured the level, it managed to do so with me running everything on very low [editline]12th August 2013[/editline] Yeah also I'd have to say the narrative of episode two is probably one of the best in any video game so far. It is also the most open half life game out there. [editline]12th August 2013[/editline]
I get painfully bored of MMOs very quickly.. usually I just dont find grinding to do MORE grinding fun
I feel the same way. Which is why I'd rather play mmos where grinding is a secondary thing, or simply doesn't exist. By way of example planet side one and eve online. Planet side one had a single objective and upon doing so you'd gain exp. it was more about capping bases than exp whoring. Eve online lacks a grind altogether and is probably one of the best mmos out there if you hate grinding for exp. well other than that its probably the best mmo I know of currently. Planetside one is dead, and I haven't played two but from what I hear they ruined it [editline]12th August 2013[/editline] Also the social component of mmorpgs is integral. You cannot play them by yourself or you will not have fun. You need to be apart of a group and form connections with at least some people
Resident Evil 6 is an enjoyable game.
I feel that Sonic Adventure 2 is a very enjoyable experience. A lot of action, kick-ass music, interesting and well-written story line, even if it IS a bit cheesy sometimes. I even enjoy the treasure hunting levels, except for Security Hall and Aquatic Mine, those are just stressful.
Call of Duty United Offensive remains the best COD for me.
You are not the only one. The singleplayer and multiplayer were both fucking amazing.
This may or may not be a sentiment echoed strongly amongst the videogaming community, but I think that for a series whose success was based largely off of its gun-play, Call of Duty always had some pretty anemic-sounding guns. also why do I use so many commas
What was the last new IP Ninetendo came up with? It has literally been years.
You have absolutely no clue how wrong you are.
What was the last new IP Ninetendo came up with?
Harmoknights immediately came to mind. that came out last year, I believe.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is superior to Superstar Saga.
I enjoy playing Shadow the Hedgehog.
Skyrim isn't half as good as Oblivion
I get the feeling I'm still going to prefer GTA:SA to GTA:V
I really liked Spore. Sure it was a glitchy half finished version of what it was meant to be but i still enjoyed it. And i keep coming back to it from time to time.
Age of Empires 3 (vanilla) was the best of the series.
I enjoy playing Shadow the Hedgehog.
That and Sonic Heroes are two of my favorite games
Unlike most people, I actually liked the tiki's from Donkey Kong Country Returns and I'm glad they are using new villains instead of throwing the kremlings in every game.
Battlefield 3 sucks ass It bugs out ever 20 minutes and crashes when I try to launch the campaign
So many god damned games suck ass.
"Papers Please" is the greatest game ever made
The only real reason people say Goldeneye is better than Perfect Dark is nostalgia.
Plot isn't very important and often ruins some games. I liked how in Half Life they never took control away for some poorly animated scene. More games need to do this. More games nowadays need to start like Bad Dudes. [t]http://analogmedium.com/blog/2009/02/NES-bad-dudes.gif[/t] Simple screen and you're in the game. I understand many games have plots and all, but a lot of games that really don't need complex plots try to push one through.
GTA: Vice City was a rushed and incomplete game, and side characters are extremely inconsistent, with some disappearing completely and others re-appearing once or twice much later in the game. For example, after you finish Steve Scott's missions, he then re-appears to make a phone call after you finish the game. It barely makes sense, Tommy doesn't speak at all, and the subtitles don't match most of the audio, because the majority of the call was cut from the final game. In fact, at least a dozen phone calls were cut from the final game and some that were actually fix a lot of plot holes, but alas, Rockstar decided to remove it all.

Counter-Strike needs greater differences in price between weapons. Earlier rounds should see people using the weaker weapons and only in later rounds should there be people with AKs and M4s.
MMORPG's were only invented to make lonely nerds addicted to an alternative reality. I mean come on, there's things like frickin' weddings among people in WoW and second life and whatever.
MMORPG's were only invented to make lonely nerds addicted to an alternative reality. I mean come on, there's things like frickin' weddings among people in WoW and second life and whatever.
You realize that the marriages in second life and wow are set up(and in second life's case, created entirely) by the players and neither game already has wedding gear or shit like that by default My opinion is that you're dumb
Mirror's Edge was a terrible game, it had some pretty neat concepts and art direction, but the story was as generic it gets and the gameplay itself was terrible, controls were awkward, combat just didn't work, and the serious optimization issues and control lag significantly worsened both problems. It tried to do some cool things, but in actual execution: it fell flat on its face. People need to stop acting like it was great.
I get painfully bored of MMOs very quickly.. usually I just dont find grinding to do MORE grinding fun
That might be because, for example, the 'good old times' of WoW (which was a good MMO) began when you were just about 10 years old, and that ride lasted for along time with a hell of a lot of people playing it. (+6 million p. much from day one, and the people you know.)
Deus Ex's gameplay does not hold up at all. It makes it so hard to get into for me. Can almost say the same for System Shock 2, but it's a little bit better than Deus Ex. Also I think all the gamebyro Bethesda RPGs are just terrible (including skyrim) and I really can't understand why people like them. Yeah they have some great content, exploration is pretty cool, there is lots of dialogue and all the jazz. But each and every one of them feels so janky and unpolished, every NPC sounds the same, dungeons are repetitive, there isn't much to the gameplay in terms of skill or anything, and the combat in each one just has no feel at all to it. I guess maybe it's because I am a Dragons Dogma or dark souls kind of guy who prefers smooth and skill based gameplay over just sheer amounts of content and exploration. In fact I honestly do not give a fuck about story at all anymore. I just want to see some good gameplay for once these days. It's why I don't give a fuck if Doom has nothing in the way for story, or if Devil May Cry's story is unimportant. In my opinion videogames should always be about gameplay and game design first then story afterwards. (unless you are going for something like The Walking Dead, in which case you don't really have much gameplay to focus on at all.) Oh yeah, I also believe artificial difficulty is a joke and if you complain about it you just need to get over it and get good by trial and error. I am sick of so many people just whining about artificial difficulty when real bullshit artificial difficulty that is genuinely unacceptable is actually pretty rare and only exists mostly in really bad games.
