I am rather upset. I'm a 20 year old American with no insurance, no money, and a shattered molar. I called the area's only free/low cost healthcare center that does dentistry and the lady told me they won't be making any adult appointments for the next few months, they primarily take care of children. I called around to different local offices of dentistry that might accept cash to see what would be the cheapest option, and the lowest one was $150 just to look at it, and the extraction could range anywhere from $50 to $250 depending on the complexity of the operation. It will probably be more expensive because the tooth that is afflicted is my top rearmost molar, not easily reachable, and the tooth itself seems to be in pieces in my mouth and I don't know if that will make it more complicated to extract. The person I talked to at that particular office recommended I apply for this thing called 'care credit', seems to be a credit card for medical care, and I go to google it and the first suggested result is 'credit care scam'. The site itself even looks like a scam site. Doesn't look like a good thing to get involved with. I could be wrong. I looked at heathcare.gov, and based on certain data, it says my options are: get insurance (hah), get insurance through work (none), get insurance through parents work (none), get insurance through PCIP/High Risk Pool (I don't have a pre-existing condition), and get insurance through medicaid (a program for which I do not qualify). It seems like this whole situation sucks ass and there's no good solution to the problem. I'm not particularly pleased with this facet of American life. It doesn't seem right. Sure, I can understand that I should have money, and yeah, I'm working on it. But at the moment, my mouth is broken, and it seems like every one of these parties wants to use that to exploit me into substantial debt. And the individual dental offices that accept cash need the cash upfront, but I don't have any money. And on top of all that is the constant pain, no appetite, vastly degraded ability to chew anyway, possibility of infection due to not treating it soon (thus making for a more expensive operation), and the fact that the only thing I've ever really had nightmares about is tooth loss and here it is. I'm facing my only real latent, personal fear, and because of my socioeconomic status, I can't do anything about it other than sit here in pain and in dread of having an operation I can't even afford. I am reasonably upset.

I hate accidentally biting my inner cheek, and then repeatedly biting it because it fucking swells up a bit.

Looking at Wikipedia, it seems like almost every first world country on the planet has free healthcare for its residents except mine. I am reasonably upset.
