How ME3 keeps fucking insisting that "hurr durr, you can't stop the reapers from raping us in the ass without the crucible!". One of the codex entries says 3-4 dreadnaughts alone can overpower a sovereign class reaper, and that was before they discovered that the reapers are vulnerable while their primary weapons are about to fire/firing. With a bit of careful strategy and planning there's no reason why they couldn't eventually be defeated conventionally, albeit at horrendous cost..
