Probably I'd currently say A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick.

I've never read Fight Club, or the Metro novels, how much do they each differ from their film/VG counterparts?
Fight Club was a pretty faithful adaptation. There are a couple differences, but it's nothing bad. I'd recommend the book either way because it has some really good moments in it that didn't end up in the movie.

Just Kidding!
I actually am a fan of the Diary Of a Wimpy Kid series

the author of fight club actually said that he liked the movie so much he felt "sort of embarrassed of the book" compared to the movie.
I was sort of embarrassed of the book, because the movie had streamlined the plot and made it so much more effective and made connections that I had never thought to make. There is a line about "fathers setting up franchises with other families," and I never thought about connecting that with the fact that Fight Club was being franchised and the movie made that connection. I was just beating myself in the head for not having made that connection myself.
Excellent choice.
Mine's probably A Scanner Darkly, or Fahrenheit 451,maybe 1984. I have a hard-on for sci-fi/futuristic dystopian novels.
West of January
The book about Uncle Pete
Either 'Monday Begins on Saturday' or 'Badass: Ultimate Deathmatch'
Serious-wise, I'm a big fan of House of Leaves, as strange as it is. Very interesting formatting.
Comedy-wise, my favorite has to be John Dies At The End. Very similar to Hitchhiker's Guide in terms of humor but it's full of a shitton of intriguing "unknowns".
The Quran commissioned by Saddam Hussein in 27 litres of his own blood.
It's cool how a lot of us like the same books and stuff. Like most of my favorites have been mentioned by multiple people.
Mein Kempf
jk. its really a teenager book called "The Island" by Gary Paulsen
"crooked little vein" by warren ellis, it isn't prize-winning classic literature or anything but it's so demented and off-the-wall that I can't help but enjoy every word of it. I think the fact that it was in my school's library just makes it even more "what the fuck", considering there's a part with godzilla bukakke and another where some guy inhales a drawer full of cocaine using a gasmask
The Clown
