Moving onto western animation for a moment, I think I figured out why I like The Prince of Egypt so much despite not being a follower of any Abrahamic religion (though Abra is one of my favourite Pokémon). For starters, it's gorgeous, secondly Ralph Fiennes and Patrick Stewart, thirdly the vocal music is great. But most importantly I think is that the story of Exodus is a very ubiquitous formula in the collective unconsious and the film not only presents it well, but also puts into focus a personal story between Moses and Ramses and that's a compelling narrative in its own right. I don't know what the thing about certain similar stories developing in separate cultures is called but it's something I'm interested in, I just like stories. Also I like the thing of one guy giving a middle finger to Elohim through sheer stoism and being stubborn.
