problem with these types of clubs is that its always mainstream stuff, if you're not into anime or are into it it's cool but if you watch a lot then there's nothing of interest although i suppose you're not the type of person the club is catered too in the first place
also obligatory "imagine actually joining the anime club at uni", we even have a club SPECIFICALLY for league of legends here, lol and our clubs are pretty broad, like sci-fi/board games, anime are the only "geeky" clubs. The rest are stuff like languages, specific sports, engineer association and whatnot.

EDIT: In first year I joined tabletop and video game club.
Complete fucking waste of time, the video game club held several lans and they all sucked (in one of the lans the power went out for 2 hours between 2am and 4am. Super fucking fun)
Tabletop club was also really bad, I joined 3 seperate groups for DnD over 3 semesters. Every single time I was let down.
I really hope the normal groups (gym, languages, all that stuff) aren't as bad, I'm sure it's better if you have a normal hobby.

Anime club gives you a card for cheap bowling, discounts at comic stores and jap food stores, even 25% off at some Irish pub + lunch-only meals can be ordered at any time of the day. It's great.
Also the IT Club, vidya, and League clubs amalgamated into one big club and holy shit do nerds know how to party. After a counter-strike marathon we hit up this place which was essentially a bottle-o fused with a sushi bar. If my blurry memory of that night serves me right, it was fun as fuck.

there used to be a takoyaki place just at the station at swinburne, only went there twice (wasn't a weeb back then)
now it shut down, I'm so fuckin' sad. There's a bunch of asian restaraunts all round the uni though, its fucking cash

ajisen ramen does good ramen due to its broth but otherwise most japanese places ive been to range from so-so to just good

I haven't really experimented much with jap cuisine apart from sushi and takoyaki.
I'm mainly an indian/chinese food guy.
If you know anywhere good near hawthorn/glenferrie/[sp]ringwood[/sp] I might check it out, but I'm still pretty poor these days so I stick to coles food and packed lunches most days.

It's on the dark side of uni. We pretty much all hang out on the opposite side, lots more stuff on the opposite end. Also the mcdonalds and coles are there so obvious reasons why the uni students are in that locale more often.
