i started watching this anime about the underwater highschoolers, i thought the idea seemed interesting, but the first episode was just kind of lacking. nothing that happened was exciting or creative, it was so bland and predictable, does it get any better?

Nagi no Asukara? I watched the first episode and was pretty bored too, but I hear it gets really good so I just put it on hold instead of dropping it.
Maybe try to continue it when you have enough time to watch a few episodes instead of just one, that way you can get a better feel for how the show is going to progress?

I assume you're talking about Nagi no asukara. If so then yes, the first like 6 or so episodes aren't that great but it get sa lot better after that imo, one of the better shows to air recently.

I guess you mean Nagi no asukara asakura whatever. I hated mc at first but it gets better and has some great characters.
The art is really good pretty aswell.

I don't know what to think about Rolling Girls. It so wants to be like Kill la Kill and Kyousougiga but it just seems to fumbles so many things. I really want the show to be good/successful because then it'll mean that more people will try to do what TRIGGER wants to do, but perhaps that should be left to those who can do it well.

So I decided to watch a few of the Log Horizon dub episodes, and my fucking god, my sides are still hurting right now.
Just everything about the voices has made this a bad, but in a hilarious kind of way deal.

I actually think it's a pretty decent dub, the that the characters all sound like nerds playing an mmo is extremely fitting for obvious reasons.
it falls under my 'watchable' rating for dubs.

Ugh, don't remind me about my HGUC Gabthley I've had for the better half of a year unbuilt because the legs are a nightmare to build. The instructions for the legs alone are three quarters of the instruction book and it's longer than the entirety of most HG instructions. Fuck transforming legs.
Zeta had too damn many transformers. Suits like the Marasai, Barzam, and Byarlant didn't get nearly enough screentime.

I would say you're trying to compare them too much, trying to find similarities where there necessarily aren't ones (or they are just generic setpieces needed to make a story in the first place) and then putting the show down for not being like what you think it tries to be like.
This whole "wow it's like TRIGGER animated it" is especially tiresome when it has none of the trademark looks of Triggers animation at all.
Fluid animation at the expense of polish =/= TRIGGER
