Anyone got any suggestions for anime that's big on worldbuilding? It doesn't have to be genre specific. Shit like Shinsekai Yori, Sora no Woto, and Nagi no asukara all fall under that. Animes with a genuinely interesting settings that leaves you wanting to know more.
i know its way too specific but space dandy s2 ep8 is like the most worldbuildingest
also found FMA:brohood's world very interesting

Texhnolyze has a pretty interesting world though a lot is kinda left up to interpretation. I'm still not exactly sure about some stuff after watching all of it.

Juuni Kokuki is world-building: the anime as a result of being an adaption of a series of novels. Tons of stuff about how the world and system of government and the various mechanics of the world work. The initial premise from the description will seem super cliched and boring, but that's just the first arc, is actually far less cliched than it sounds, and there's tons of politics and a rotating cast of protagonists as it goes on. Plus there's a lot of strong character development for the various characters.
can anyone recc a mecha anime where the combat is similar to EVA? Most mecha shows I've seen have either felt very floaty when it comes to combat or like two tanks going at it (which is more realistic and I appreciate it, but still) the slightly animalistic approach is cool as fuck to me, anything else like that?

Agh, I'm sure I know at least one but I'm terrible at keeping track of shows I've watched.
The problem with what you want is that shows with land-bound mecha are extremely few and far between. There's like less than ten shows where the mecha can't fly. What the fuck is the point of having an enormous robot when it never touches the fucking ground?

If only you had some sort of anime list to keep track of the shows you've watched like the rest of us...

the space based stuff really doesn't interest me that much, why I don't like mecha anime for the most part, if 2 huge robots are fighting, it should feel like 2 machines or 2 large creatures smashing into eachother, not some floaty acrobatics and a lot of projectile. I want mecha not human shaped fighter jets in space.
Yuri bear storm's opening sounds like one i've heard before, but i can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe its the same VA or something.
[editline]27th January 2015[/editline]
shooooooocku, kuma shocku.

what the hell
what the hell
Yuri bear storm is this kinda fucking insane show from this season that i'm no closer to figuring out 4 episodes in. I don't know if i love it or hate it.
I think it's pretty great.
I think it's pretty great.
Yeah i've mulled it over a little and i'd have to agree. I'm quite loving the symbolism.

Turn A Gundam
the entire story revolves around political issues and trying to find out about the past
plus Syd Mead did the mecha designs, and the Gundam has a mustache

Log Horizon, a couple of gundams could be considered world building, if thats your thing.

if you mean impractical and silly mechs smacking each other until the protagonist wins, then star driver.
The Japanese sure do seem to love the Chinese knockoffs of the Tokarev pistol, they seem to show up all the time in anime.
It's probably got something to do with the fact that Japan is not exactly very far away from China and Chinese Tokarevs are mad cheap. Naturally, any mobster would want to get their hands on a gun that is cheap.

the mixing of japanese and english sounds absolutely terrible
lily bear storm isn't as bad.
Why not Lesbian Bear Storm? Shortened to LesBear.
personally i like to call it "shit"

Nanoha actually develops a pretty interesting setting by the time you hit StrikerS.
EDIT: If technomagic, bureaucracy, interdimensional magic and special forces teams and laser beams are your thing you'll like it.
Also a healthy dose of spaceships and robots.
Seriously it's a pretty crazy setting. Magitech.

I liked the setting and story but I can't think of a good way to expand SSY. It worked pretty amazingly as it's own contained thing, but to add more on probably wouldn't click very well.
Stop calling Yuri Kuma not Yuri Kuma.

I am damn well going to call Lesbian Bear Storm whatever the hell I want.
