there's nothing funnier than an unlikable main character who tells girls to fuck off!!
I think this is called missing the point Because the point is that "spineless MC who is a butt monkey to the entire female cast" trope is overused to high hell and is little more than annoying 99% of the time now
i think there is a point that has been missed here I am very sick of "haha i treat you like shit for existing and you just sort of sit there and take it all day" generic humour. It's so overdone it's not funny.

I think this is called missing the point Because the point is that "spineless MC who is a butt monkey to the entire female cast" trope is overused to high hell and is little more than annoying 99% of the time now
i agree but i'm just pointing out that your example was awful

I don't think "stop hitting me also stop being a huge bitch" is a very unreasonable thing to ask my main character to say.
i agree but i'm just pointing out that your example was awful
His example was bad because the girls usually resorts to physical violence. His example was simply too mild.
i agree but i'm just pointing out that your example was awful
You're not supposed to take it literally. I'm going to have to start including footnotes if you keep this up.
I don't think "stop hitting me also stop being a huge bitch" is a very unreasonable thing to ask my main character to say.
it's unnecessarily mean and probably wouldn't fit the tone of a comedy
i agree but i'm just pointing out that your example was awful
I'm not sure how? Reds' example of a better thing is the male MC not being fazed by abuse and instead telling the females abusing him to fuck off. Somehow you translated this to "unlikable MC who tells girls to fuck off", somehow implying that if the MC stands up for himself that's bad and makes him unlikable?? This would work pretty good in the realms of comedy, it's reversal humour.
You're not supposed to take it literally. I'm going to have to start including footnotes if you keep this up.
sorry i'm bad at telling a tone of voice over text so i tend to assume most things are meant literally
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso's soundtrack is really nice to have running in the background. Good OST.
it's unnecessarily mean and probably wouldn't fit the tone of a comedy
But hitting people for nothing is ok?
it's unnecessarily mean and probably wouldn't fit the tone of a comedy
If the joke isn't funny in the first place it isn't going to make it any worse. Also what I'm asking for is not a violent "FUCK OFF YOU WHORE", it's "stop doing that" and not playing butt-monkey or acting intimidated of somebody who has no actual power over them. I'm asking for somebody to go "or i could just leave" for once.
it might work in a better context but in the usual light-hearted comedy shows that the kind of comedy he's complaining about happens in it would feel really out of place and unnecessarily mean
See above. This is rooted in the fact that to begin with the joke is not funny, therefore making it a bad comedy.
tbh im stil somewat confsed as to wat kacnolle is lik wat the fuk is this slug thing suposed to be

That's fitting, but telling them to stop isn't? You're definitely taking it too literally if you think he meant that he character should literally say "fuck off".
But hitting people for nothing is ok?
there's a difference between the kind of beating up those characters do and take and actually getting beaten up if there was an anime where the main character got bruised and started bleeding and actually hurting from the girls' retaliations then i'd say that's an asshole thing to do
yeah i can agree with the whole "stop doing that" thing but saying "fuck off" sounds too mean to me
Again, I do not literally mean for them to tell them to fuck off, as stated in the part where I said taht I wasn't literally saying that they should fuck off. footnote 1: i didn't mean that they should violently snap at them and tell them to fuck off, possibly non-comedically hitting them in response Am I being clear enough?

Apply that logic to his example of the character telling the person to "fuck off".

Hakita, you are having the most bizarre reaction to this.
well i'm sorry for thinking that he meant the protagonist would say "fuck off" when he said that a protagonist would say "fuck off"
Good. Next time, see if there is an overall message that's being stated rather than confronting the direct statement. obligatory :v: to lighten up the mood
Hakita, you are having the most bizarre reaction to this.
i just pointed out that saying "fuck off" (which i at first thought you meant literally) is really mean and now i'm trying to clarify what i meant and what my opinions on the matter are while this thread is going too fast for me to properly handle
Your response to the point being clarified, not that it needed clarifying in the first place, is to miss the point harder or to stick to your guns and act like it wasn't clarified in the first place. How about this: I think it would be a refreshing comedy where the MC stands up for himself and subverts the typical protagonist abuse style of comedy. Alternatively, when being physically or verbally abused, standing up for himself rather than just sitting there and taking it. Is that clear enough for you?

Beating up somebody or generally having overblown and unjustified reactions to menial slights.
You know what else is mean? Beating up somebody or generally having overblown and unjustified reactions to menial slights.
yeah but it's never portayed as being actually violent and hurtful so it doesn't feel out of place
