not to mention that many of the tropes associated with this (walked in on me changing, walked in on me in the changing room while I was not clothed, etc, so my response is to physically assault him) are also far past the point of being even remotely funny nowadays, on top of such a response being seen by most sane people as at the least "somewhat over the line"

It always feels out of place, because the character doesn't deserve it. It's out of fucking nowhere, and it's a batshit insane reaction that the MC shouldn't deal with.
It's always portrayed as violent and hurtful, the MC always complains about it in some way and feels the pain, just not on a tragic or truly hurtful level. Then they just play it off by having the two yell at eachother and then make up.

The portrayal of a consistently spiteful character or more commonly just comedic assholes doesn't seem terribly positive to me. Particularly in many shows that aren't complete comedy and expect to find this/these character/s likable despite this.
Or to focus on my main point, the joke isn't funny. Get a new joke.

Most important to note is that in about 70% of the cases it's not even the MCs fault, at all.
Even when it's the fucking girls fault the MC still gets a beating.
