Read the NHK manga. It explained a lot more of why the characters are the way they are. They left out all the drug use in the anime. MC is a lot more creepy in the manga. [sp]doing drugs, downloading porn, taking pictures of little girls. And his senpai which I assume is the girl from school also does drugs.[/sp] Is the manga better than the anime? Uhh. well I think it's a lot more creepy and it explained a little more but with the anime like with the [sp]suicide pact[/sp] episode it was a lot more sad.

Jesus, that show could have been a shit-ton more darker, and have more story to it other than [sp]hurr durr lets make a game and then oh whoops i have to go to a farm and the game flopped and oh no theres a girl trying to make me better but i cant see this for the WHOLE SHOW[/sp]... I think I would have liked the show a TON more if it had that aspect in it. I honestly found the [sp]suicide pact[/sp] part boring(? - not sure if that's the word)... They dragged a LOT of scenarios out really far imo, but I guess that's anime. I find that I get a LOT more attracted (not in the typical sense) to characters when there's emotional and personal problems (see Angel Beats - although that's probably a HORRIBLE example as each character was pretty much rushed) Also apparently there's a book, which would be cool to read.
Overall the anime is still good. They clean it up for the audience I guess but I still enjoyed it a lot. And reading the manga cleared up a lot. Also the anime has a different ending than the manga. It's like the manga wanted to be dark and creepy and the anime wanted to be sad and you felt bad for the characters.
there's also the NHK light novel, but good luck finding it it's licensed and out of print, I haven't read it cause of that but i here the order of quality goes Novel > Manga > Anime. also they all have different endings from what I recall.

(I know that's a huge undertaking, but I would be forever grateful)
I just finished watching "Welcome to the NHK" and I have to say, unless I'm missing some Japanese historical/cultural context, it's kind of frustrating. I mean, the whole thing in general was good, it's just that [sp]The fact that at the end he goes on some fucking conspiracy theory diatribe and then at the very end she's all like "hurr durr sign this contract" no fuckin' kissing or hugging or any shit like that, so you don't know if they're a couple or not, and it's very weakly implied if there was something like that[/sp] What's with the whole NHK Conspiracy thing? I don't really understand the importance of it throughout the show [sp]especially with his 'senpai' talking about it so much I don't get it. Seems like it was just there for a plot device.[/sp] Also, EXTREMELY fuckin' frustrating how [sp]oh i dont know if i like her or not, and she's all i like/love you etc etc. and the love contract near the end and holy fuck it made me mad like do SOMETHING[/sp] too bad it's a one-off and there's no more seasons/sequels... That's what I hate about anime. There's no concrete ending for most of them cause they're one-offs. In general though, I thought it was pretty decent, but pretty dry at times because I guess they needed to extend it artificially what with the [sp]ero game[/sp] and stuff. I'm not a fan of the manga, but is it better than the anime? Speaking of which, I want to get a Misaki figure. Since the show came out in 2006, I'm pretty much doomed to get something off of ebay. Does anyone have any input on how to avoid bootlegs? Looking at these ones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WELCOME-TO-THE-NHK-ni-Youkoso-04-Ltd-Comic-w-Figure-Japan-Free-Shipping-/261779860080 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Welcome-to-the-NHK-Vol-4-Mega-House-Misaki-Figure-Postcard-Japan-Anime-Manga/141576514466?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29172%26meid%3D0fdf04ff30ab436e9b19a70ec3f3b622%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D261779860080&rt=nc
[sp]As far as I read into it, both of them go on about the conspiracy stuff in an effort to deal with all the bad shit that comes their way. One of the more common ways for depressed people to deal with their situation is to convince themselves that it's completely outside of their control. Feeling powerless and useless because there's someone out to get you feels way better than having to admit that you're useless due to circumstance, bad luck and poor choices. As to the general apathy of Satou, that's also pretty par for the course for those that are severely depressed.[/sp] Probably not actually spoilers, but better safe than sorry. To clarify a bit more [sp] Even if they're aware that it's a lie, having something concrete to fight against, some reason for their troubles gives them a sense of power. That their problems aren't insurmountable. That there's some clear-cut concise solution that can be achieved. At the end he's giving Misaki, a person who feels worthless and powerless, something to blame. It's not healthy, but it gives her something to relieve her emotional burdens while she works on her underlying problems. As to the apathy; Satou himself makes mention of the fact that he doesn't actually want to do anything. That the risk of failure and the resulting pain would be too much to bear, that his life as it is works just well enough that he can get by. I can't remember if he ever says it in the show, but there's a line from either the manga or the novel, probably both, where he says "I shut myself away so I wouldn't have to be lonely anymore." That sort of mentality is pretty prevalent among the depressed. If you never get invested in something, you can never lose anything.[/sp]
Wow, i had no idea they were making Kyoukai no Kanata movies. I feel like a lot of people didn't like the series, but i really enjoyed it, so i'm looking forward to it.

Seems to make a bit more sense. You'd think since I have pretty bad depression that I'd relate or understand but that doesn't seem to be the case :P
If you have a tablet download Manga Rock or MangaGalaxy(He released download on his Facebook page). Gonna be interesting to explain this box to my parents (considering I'll probably get "oh what did you get in the mail?")
Isn't that warez/illegal or something?
Orkel posts batoto links here so it's fine.
Manga is the grayer area of things. [editline]16th February 2015[/editline] The best way to explain figures to your parents. "It's my money."
Also, just saying: I'm legitimately happy that I'm not getting dumbed or whatever for watching this show. I remember earlier (months ago) that I said that Sword Art Online (maybe the first 10 episodes or so) was one of the best shows I've watched (as well as Clannad, Kanon, Angel Beats - bit of an obsession with KEY I guess) and everyone was like 'oh jesus christ yur a tard hurr' but now I guess that since maybe I have a decent taste in anime (not that 'moe moe romance ecchi shit - which I still love the shit out of and could write an entire post out of it which I might do after this paragraph) I'm welcome here??? (?????) Anyways: Has anyone ever watched an anime or read a VN or something, and had had it affect you so much (emotionally or what have you) that you feel depressed or something? Just as an example, I played Katawa Shoujo a while back when it first came out and holy shit I had never cried as much as I did or felt emotions like that in a long time. Another example, the ending of Angel Beats where [sp]Kanade leaves the 'purgatory(?)' leaving the MC to himself or something like that (kind of fuzzy)[/sp] or the part in Clannad: After Story where [sp]Nagisa just up and fuckin' croaks as well as when time goes "back" and he gets to live with her for the rest of his life (not saying thats good plot, but anyways)[/sp]. I just feel like sometimes I hate that overly dramatic/emotional/romantic/eccentric events that happen in anime don't happen IRL, which is kind of why I stopped watching anime for around a year or so (still collect figures... weird) because I'd watch an anime and feel so fucking down and out that I wouldn't want to do anything for a week. Don't get me wrong, I'm currently in College for IT, have shite tons of friends, but I feel like if I start binge watching anime again I'm gonna go back to how I was and have marks slip, less friends, that kind of stuff... Just wondering if anyone feels the same.
Manga is the grayer area of things. [editline]16th February 2015[/editline] The best way to explain figures to your parents. "It's my money."
I literally tell them "I like the art style, I just like it cause cartoon shit is awesome" but then again the boxes aren't really dressed up like this one is.
To me it's the same as warez, but I don't mind that you can discuss it on FP.
"SAO best show I ever watched." is what people who haven't watched much anime say. [editline]16th February 2015[/editline]
To me it's the same as warez, but I don't mind that you can discuss it on FP.
At least we got something.
"SAO best show I ever watched." is what people who haven't watched much anime say.
True. I think I'm gonna change my opinion on anime as well. It used to be 'oh yeah, watch the raunchiest shit but not excessively lewd like kiss x sis or that level of stuff'. Now I realize that something like NHK is something that shouldn't be binge-watched [sp]The suicide pact part was really bloody depressing now that I think about it[/sp] and I just rushed through the episodes not really thinking about them cause I wanted to see them do a moe kiss emotional thing that I could tear up at (the part just before the end was like that but yeah). I liked the part where [sp] it was pretty much role reversal, MC was the outgoing looking one and Misaki was the neet/hekookymaroo one. [/sp] I dunno. I'm not into the whole "pew pew action gundam guns pow wowee JoJo" type stuff (please don't kill me, I'm not trying to demean it) but I like stuff that's kind of slice of life but not really as well as romance and arc like stuff (clannad was a little bit overboard on that, shoving like 10 arcs into 20-30 episodes)? Could anyone give me recommendations for someone who liked NHK, Clannad, Angel Beats, Kiss X Sis (not for the lewd shit i swear - maybe). I've heard Kimi no Todoke is pretty good...
I really like how Yatterman alternates between comedy and tragedy AOTS contender if something happens to Death Parade
I've heard Kimi no Todoke is pretty good...
Kimi ni Todoke is great, except s2, which wasn't so good.
Can eBay sellers lie about their location? Like if they say on their site that it ships from Tokyo or wherever, can they just be like 'yeah thats our return address but we're shipping from butthole, DPRK or some sketchy place full of bootlegs?
"SAO best show I ever watched." is what people who haven't watched much anime say.
When you're new to anime, everything is amazing All the stereotypical anime characters and jokes that we're used to seeing are brand new experiences to them
yes swan song is an very depressing VN that made me stop reading VNs for a while mostly because i made all of the choices that i would've done in that situation, and when i finally completed it and got the "neutral" end it wasn't really "neutral" and was more like the "fuck you; everything sucks" end other than that no not much else bothered me muv luv alternative sure came close tho katawa shoujo is like babby tier tbh
just dont buy from ebay full stop
It was the only place I could find unfortunately. I'm not very knowledgeable on third party selling. I know aniani (i think it's called) and other super serious "if you cancel your preorder/purchase you're banned from our website" websites, but they were all out of stock so I went with a gently used one off of ebay for 30 dollars. "gently used" I hope to god they didn't cum on it. I literally JUST thought about that. Jesus Christ I'm dipping that thing in super-concentrated bleach
I probably post about it here every other chapter that is released, but it is for good reason. "Is Reiroukan still alive?" Is a that is just really brilliant. Great artstyle and interesting characters that put it in a really comfy slice of life. Now with 2 new seasons, does Mushishi have a proper ending for Ginko?
Some of the music in Parasyte makes no fucking sense thematically. [sp]Kana runs towards a parasyte thinking it's Izumi, but then finds it to be another parasyte eating a human. You'd think they'd use some suspenseful music to build up the tension. But no, they instead play some weird happy piano tune. What a fucking trainwreck.[/sp]
Now with 2 new seasons, does Mushishi have a proper ending for Ginko?
no the movie will adapt the final arc of the final manga volume though
